RIYADH: Armed forces from around 20 countries were gathering in northern Saudi Arabia Sunday for “the most important” military manoeuvre ever staged in the region, the official news agency SPAreported.

The “Thunder of the North” exercise involving ground, air, and naval forces sends a “clear message” that Riyadh and its allies “stand united in confronting all challenges and preserving peace and stability in the region”, SPA said.

Saudi Arabia is currently leading a military campaign against Iran-backed rebels in its southern neighbour Yemen. Last December, it also formed a new 35-member coalition to fight “terrorism” in Islamic countries.

Sunday’s announcement also comes as the kingdom, a member of the US-led coalition targeting the Islamic State group, said it has deployed warplanes to a Turkish air base in order to “intensify” its operations against IS in Syria.

SPA did not specify when the military exercise will begin or how long it will last.

However, the agency called it the “most important and largest in the region’s history” in terms of the number of nations taking part and the weaponry being used.

Twenty countries will be taking take part, SPA said.

Among them are Saudi Arabia’s five partners in the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as Chad, Egypt, Jordan, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Senegal and Tunisia, it added.

A Saudi source said on Thursday that members of the new “anti-terrorism” coalition will gather in Saudi Arabia next month for its first publicly announced meeting.

Riyadh has said the alliance would share intelligence, combat violent ideology and deploy troops if necessary.

Just dumping money into defence without thinking like the Saudis did in the past is pointless,

The muslim world could form a very powerful military alliance if money is invested wisely, experience is gained and that experience is used to become better strategic planners

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have strong and old relationship and supported each other all the time. We value our important relationship with our brotherly country KSA. This event is also an example of our trust, friendship and cooperation.
KSA has a strong military and have full support from many Muslim countries in their fight against internal and external threats.

Don't want to disappoint you too much. Since Hindustanis don't seem to care, I will help you.

So you guys think all those conspiracies about Pakistan being isolated is just another conspiracy? Which means all of you who blamed Israel, USA, India, UK, Afghanistan et al must apologize

Masha Allah :) Muslim Warriors
Mashallah nothing - a conglomeration of backward, underdeveloped and regressive States that (barring a couple) don't possess the R&D and scientific resources to compete with Western nations.

And you have to look no further than the very sentiment of 'Mash Allah, Muslim Warriors' to realize that it is this mindset of hatred and intolerance that has left Muslim societies struggling to advance.

Those handful of States that have advanced somewhat and do possess some level of scientific and technological abilities are those that are 'moderate' and trying (or used to) to keep religion out of the government

Good to take part with International partners who are against fanatic extremism
Rigghhhhttt!

And what better place to host said exercise than the country whose government bears primary responsibility for spreading a toxic, regressive and medieval interpretation of Islam.

Lets just hope all our soldiers return without being brainwashed into trying to massacre school children or attack GHQ or other military facilities.

I propose this Ume Ethihad should also make one resolution attack on one will be considered attack on all ,and during the attack on any one all will come to his rescue that will take care of Indian wet dream

Saudi Arabia is moving into the hands of younger generation princes most notably Mohammed bin Salman whose father the current King Salman served government of Riyadh and several important positions. The second is Mohammed bin Naif whose father Prince Naif served the interior ministry his entire life..

Both of these prince are well versed in regional conflict and security doctrines and inherit invaluable experience of governing from their father...Saudi policies will no longer be pacifist negotiation tables and back doors and cheque books..it is going to get a lot more assertive..this will be bad news for trouble makers!

the word "Isolate Pakistan" is heard a lot coming from across our eastern borders...that was the main point of Mr Modiji's election compiagn along with "Pakistan ko sabaq". A conspiracy is hatched doesnt mean it will be a success, and please dont bring other countries with you in this...USA? UK? how??? .... India is isolated in his quest to isolate Pakistan.

if Pakistan joins the exercise iran will be angry also if Pakistan doesn't Saudi Arabia will be angry

cluster ****

So Pakistan should seek Iran's permission to join any other country?
