After waiting for a hundred years, they finally became a member of China

It is said that in 1791, the Qing government crushed the invasion of the Gurkhas army. Hundreds of missing Qing dynasty soldiers did not return to their native land after the war and remained in the border area. During the long years, these men and women lived together with people on the China-Nepal border. After more than 100 years of integration, the descendants of these people were called "Damans."

Another legend is that the people in this village are descendants of people who migrated from Nepal to Geelong Town. They have passed through six or seven generations. There are now 200 people in the village. They usually rely on blacksmiths, carpenters, bearing heavy burdens , and miscellaneous people. This is Daman. They have no nationality and are not recognized by the state as having no nationality at the time, nor do they know whether they are Chinese or Nepalese.
Because the Damans and the local Tibetans live together in the Geelong gully on the south wing of Mount Everest, although it is often difficult to identify them, as long as they look closely, they can recognize that their eyes are generally blue, large and deep.
They used to walk on the China-Nepal, Sino-Indian borders, have no nationality, no land and housing, and have been living in disarray. After being approved by the China State Council in 2003 to join the Chinese nationality, in 2004 the Chinese government officially accepted them as Chinese citizens.
In order to further improve the lives of Daman people, technical staff of the Jilong County Water Conservancy Bureau carried out field research on Daman Village and established a tap water project. In 2004, the local government invested more than 1 million yuan for all villagers. A two-story building with a civil structure was built and a school was built at the same time, free of tuition fees. The government also allocated farmland and livestock to each household.
Daman people can enjoy the same state subsidies as other local peoples in the country, for example, 3,500 yuan per year for each village cadre; each household male is selected as a forest ranger every year, and they are given a subsidy of 5,000 yuan each year; each person can receive 1,000 yuan each year. The subsidy for the border; Dibao has more than 1,400 yuan per person per year, as well as subsidy policies such as grassland ecological subsidies and compensation for wild animals.
In the village, a 68-year-old old man said that after learning that he had become a chinese citizen, he was very happy to say: “When I was a child, Dad brought me over here. I didn’t go back ever since. At that time, my nationality was not counted as China nor Nepal.I am very happy that we have got China Nationality."
Today, Geelong Gul has earned its reputation as the "second world paradise."
