The mission comes days after ISRO successfully launchedRs.450 crore Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) in November using its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-XL).

According to sources, the MoD has tasked the Indian Air Force (IAF) to identify the qualitative requirements for the crew. The Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services is to draw out the requirements.

The process will include identifying five "most suitable" men for the mission.

Former IAF officer Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma was the first Indian to travel in space in 1984.

Great news. Now get the GSLV MK3 operational and then get a man rated rocket. Still take atleast 10 years if not more.

This is just a media exaggreation. This will not be the next in line for ISRO after Mars mission. They must do a human space flight to LEO before any manned mission to moon. But for human spcae flight they need a reliable GSLV and spacecraft to carry men. So, first make a reliable GSLV then build a spacecraft, spacesuit, training facility etc to send a man to LEO. Once they acheive these then they can think about manned moon mission. I don't see this coming for another 15 years.
This is where China is more advanced than India. They have heavier rockets, spacecraft and demonstrated human spaceflight to LEO multiple times besides the space station they are building.
Isro quoted around 2 billion USD for sending a man to LEO and the money is not going to come without much criticism.
