Indonesian Ex-Policeman Launches Lawsuit
The police force says the officer tarnished their reputation and acted against their ethics code.

A 29-year-old policeman in Jakarta, Indonesia was fired in February after 10 years of service for being gay, the Jakarta Post reported. The man, identified only as TT, is now challenging his dismissal with a lawsuit against the Central Java police and a human rights violation complaint filed with the National Human Rights Commission.
“Serving the public as a police officer for the past ten years has been my pride,” the former police officer told the newspaper.
“I have given my best my entire career, and they fired me just like that for reasons that pertain to my private life and don’t endanger anyone else. I am extremely disappointed,” he added.

While homosexuality is not officially illegal in Indonesia, with the exception of the Islamically-conservative Aceh province, TT was “dishonorably discharged” for violating the national police force’s code of ethics.

“Homosexuality is still taboo [in our society]. A police officer must not have any divergent sexual orientation,” said national police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo.

His official notice of termination stated that he failed to protect the reputation of the police force and act in line with the country’s social and religious values, according to the Jakarta Post.

Prasetyo also said that TT “abused” a victim, though his lawyer’s confirm that his relationship with his partner is consensual, Reuters reported.

TT’s dismissal came two years after he was forced to come out as gay while celebrating Valentine’s Day with his partner at a local restaurant. As they walked to their car after dinner, nine police officers appeared and accused TT of extortion, he told the Jakarta Post. Though they had no arrest warrant, the officers forced TT to go to the police station and subjected him to a 12-hour interrogation, at which point he realized that their main interest was his sexual orientation.

After years of concealing his sexuality, TT admitted that he was gay. He said that the police then forcibly outed him to his other colleagues and family members.

According to activists in the region, TT is likely the first police officer to both be fired for his sexuality and challenge such a decision without denying his sexual orientation.

“As far as I know, this is the first time a victim of sexual orientation discrimination has fought back in Indonesia,” said gay rights activist Dede Oetomo. “This is very brave of him and it will have a role in changing society. LGBT people, the community and activists will be inspired to trust the legal process and see that there’s an opportunity to fight back.”

According to Reuters, there has been increased prejudice against LGBTQ individuals amongst Indonesia’s government and general public recently, causing members of the community to hide their sexual identities.

However, activists believe that this case could lead to greater protections for vulnerable individuals who identify as part of Indonesia’s LGBTQ community.

“Whatever the court’s decision may be, I want people to see the injustice that I [and the LGBTQ community] have experienced,” TT said to The Jakarta Post. “We have the same right to love and to live.”

This will be quite important to see what will be the court decision. I believe the Police Department has done the right thing, homosexuality is against Indonesia core ideology which is Pancasila. Homosexuality is against first pillar (religiousity under only One God) and second pillar.

Firing someone for being gay is not right. I expect better from Indonesian authorities

They shouldn't fire someone for being gay. That is just not right

There are better options too for handling such situation

I believe having a homosexual tendency should not be punished since it can come from traumatic experience or having disorder personality due to more estrogen hormone (test from God) for men and testosteron hormone for women. If they do sexual activity or proclaim and even promote such behavior then it is different case, Indonesia police actually has criminalized gay party and makes raid on them with the last one just a week ago.

This is the law used to criminalized the behavior.

The National Police have insisted that the arrest of 141 men during a raid on an alleged gay party at a gym in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Sunday night was legal and conducted according to the 2008 Pornography Law.

“The arrests conducted by the North Jakarta Police were in line with the 2008 Pornography Law, especially articles 4 (2) and 30,” National Police spokesperson, Sr. Com. Martinus Sitompul told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

Several human rights watchdogs and supporters of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) social movements have protested the police’s handling of the case after a string of pictures emerged of naked men who were alleged to be gay being herded into the police office for interrogation.

The pictures went viral on social media. “Those pictures and information were not from the police,” Martinus said. He said a number of police officers were involved in the raid, but he denied the pictures and information uploaded on social media were distributed by the police.

“The police will inform of the arrest procedure through a press conference or press release,” he added. “If some NGOs have objections to the legal procedure, I advise them to directly contact the police handling the case so they can get full information about it,” Martinus said. (hol/ebf)

The best medicine for this sexual abnormal orientation is religion, particularly Islam. As Muslim we can see how sin that we made affected our relationship with God through what we can feel in our heart. It will be useless if the heart cannot feel the God present anymore.

Actually one of my friend become lesbian after her divorce and what I can see from her is that she put religion very lightly and can easily drink alcohols. On the other hand, my other friend (male) who act like female since kids but has good religiosity dont have such issue. He married a woman just 2-3 years after university graduation and has already had kid.

LGBT is not 100% congenital but it is contagious. Most people are not 100% heterosexual. Some are 90% hetero, 10% homo. Some are 50% hetero, 50% homo, and this are bisexual people.

A 30% hetero and 70% homo can live a straight live without seduction from gay community. With a permissive gay ambiance, many will be converted.

Gay like to feign victim as if they harm no one in society.

But Gay are 100x more promiscuous than straights. Straights are rein from sex by the prudish female, hence creating a market for sex workers.

Gay just FCUK and FCUK without restrain.

Gay are hotbed of HIV, and all other sexual dieseases.

Gay couple have extremely high family violence.

Gay have lower life expectancy.

Many others.......

Meanwhile Gay lied . We know HIV is a gay diesease and it is extremely difficult to get it from normal man woman sex. The entire western establishment lied, because they figure out if people know gays are bug cesspool, people will form bad opinions.

While gay need not be fire from any other jobs, public service especially police, requires very high moral standards, higher than everything else.

Entire police department loose credibility if someone caught a police FCUKing in gay bar. And mind you gays are extremely horney.

Public servant also hold many confidential information that can be compromised when everyone has loose morals.

Gays are not suitable to remain in public service.
This will be quite important to see what will be the court decision. I believe the Police Department has done the right thing, homosexuality is against Indonesia core ideology which is Pancasila. Homosexuality is against first pillar (religiousity under only One God) and second pillar.
