At least eight local police officers have been killed in an insider attack in the southern Afghan province of Zabul.

Two officers turned their guns on their own colleagues at a local police checkpoint in LoyShor village, Shinkay district overnight, according to Zabul provincial council member Haji Asadullah Kakar on Saturday .

"Taking the guns, ammunitions and a vehicle they fled the area and joined the Taliban," Kakar said, adding that it appeared the attackers already had connections with the group.

Confirming the deaths, Gul Islam Sial, a spokesman for the provincial governor, said security officials were investigating the incident.

The Taliban have recruited members of the security forces in recent years to carry out insider attacks against both the country's own police force and troops as well as foreign troops.

In January, another eight local police officers were killed by their own colleagues in Afghanistan's northern Faryab province.

In late December, five Afghan soldiers were killed when a number of Taliban militants wearing police uniforms attacked a checkpoint in Sha Wali Kot district, in the southern province of Kandahar.

the Americans are going to return to fight again when the fight actually had never finished but made situation even worse as more extreme faction are rising up. furthermore the afghan police or army have strong links with taliban because taliban serve in it and switch sides as and when they need to. so taliban have the trained people and weapons which are sold to them by corrupt police and army = :welcome:again :usflag:

US politicians want Pakistan to take the blame for USA failing in Afghanistan. The country is in a mess and Indian proxies are hurting the Afghan people. Taliban are gaining ground every day. This is the longest running war in the history of mankind.

Agreed, its a game of patience and diplomacy ... I think its more about India loobying firm working against Pakistan ...

Situation is complex ... I can see that Pentagon is pro-Pakistan as these are the boys on ground facing real problems and getting help from Pakistan ... CIA is against Pakistan as objective of CIA is to keep US influence in the region which can only be kept by keeping a week gov in Afghanistan and keeping the Afghanistan unstable ... Unstable Afghanistan is not in favour of Pakistan and ofz Pakistan will not support USA against its own interest and here is the conflict ... The third part .. the congressman,,, they have no idea whats going on ,,, they are bunch of greedy souls trying to build upon every opportunity of making money and here India in its hatred against Pakistan is speeding tons of money through lobbying firm ...

I think India needs to understand before financing any chaos in Pakistan that we are not Bangladesh ... Culture of People of Pakistan is entirely different ... unlike Bangladesh it is very diffiult to control us against our wish ... So even worst case scenario if they get success in breaking-up Pakistan than I am sure that same fire will be coming to India and I sware to Allah it will burn all the hindus of sub-continent ...

Isnt this the second time in a week where police have defected to the Taliban?

and last week, an entire valley was turned over by a rogue police officer too.

Either the Taliban is doing widespread infiltration again, or people are genuinely getting fed up with Kabul.

this is another sign that puppet regime in kabul is loosing control of whatever left in their grip. Most likely they will come back to blame Pakistan but everyone know underline reality is indian and Kabul joint venture of terror projects are not enough to keep kabul puppet regime in power.
