Afghan endgame: US withdraws military equipment via Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The United States has started withdrawing military equipment from Afghanistan and a first convoy of containers crossed the Torkham border point headed to Karachi for shipment, said an official of the cargo company on Sunday.

An official of the cargo company, Bilal Associates, from Karachi told The Express Tribune via phone call that his company received clearance for the US defence equipment at the Torkham border point on Friday.

He said that the first convoy of nearly 25 containers was cleared by the Pakistani custom officials and was allowed to proceed to Karachi.

The official, on condition of anonymity, said that another convoy of containers will enter Pakistan next week. “Many more would follow as it is a huge operation,” he said.

The US plans to withdraw several thousand troops from the war-torn Afghanistan this year and the Nato has set 2014 for a complete withdrawal. Washington is engaged in talks with Kabul for a security pact that is likely to allow presence of some troops in Afghanistan after the Nato withdrawal.

The United States, which has currently more than 60,000 troops in Afghanistan as part of nearly 150,000 Nato force, plans to withdraw all its combat troops by 2014.

Top US military officials had earlier stated they would need Pakistan’s support in exit strategy and its land routes will be crucial for withdrawal of troops and equipment. Last year, Pakistan allowed the US military cargo and non-containerised equipment to enter its territory at Torkham and Chaman border in Balochistan province.

Pakistan, however, linked transit of the US military cargo at the time of withdrawal from Afghanistan with certification that Washington would not transit any hazardous waste material and uranium.

Is there any going for sale ?

used stuff at bargain price ?

USA will sell every thing which has smaller book value than the shipping cost.

They can sell. Usbekistan told america to give Millitary Equipment like some tanks APCs and artillery from Aghanistan in exchange of allowing transit to USA.

What about the people sitting there in the caves, deserts, bushes and even in big cities in the west, just plotting some sort of heinous crime.

With regard to those, let us follow the example of merlyn and show our backs to them. I have tried this methodology on jinz ooops on ghosts and have experienced their disappearance..

Lets be responsible, not just to ourselves but towards the region and the world - Whatever the position individuals may have taken with regard to the US experience in Afghanistan, the reality is that the US seeks exit from Afghanistan, let us therefore facilitate this exit responsibly - it means saving lives, above all, Pakistani lives.

Just a guess, but the sale can only go ahead for small arms and munitions like assault rifles, bullet-proof kevlar vests, night-vision goggles etc. or even some big items in exceptional circumstances.
Kevlar was reportedly being sold in Peshawar anyways... right?

. .
US & Allies will sale most of their Military Equipments & Pakistan should buy the good ones, whereas on the other side US & Allies will prefer giving these Military Equipments to dumb & corrupt Afghanis for free.

So let’s see what US & Allies will sell before they leave.

USA got its objective, They came They saw they Kill.. Now when OBL is killed there is no sense in staying in Afghanistan.

Having said that I would like to add, There drones will stay in Afghanistan. And Taliban will never allow to rule Afghans again (Unless 3rd most powerful nation china want so). Except Pakistan, Nigeria, Somalia no one is pro Taliban.

Sir Taliban will come no body can stop them from coming back specially when USA running away no body will not stop them

They will withdraw and we will take the blame for the failure of the war on terror. Sanctions are going to be imposed, I am sure of it. Pakistan must decide its own path and start making some serious decisions right now.

Do you ever think what you wish for. You hate the Americans fine, a great number of people dislike them. But why ignore the fact that even the Afghan Taliban's 80% victims have been Afghan civilians instead of American soldiers. Why don't the taliban just fight the Americans if they are so noble. Look at it for what it is. Its just an excuse by those Wahabi cultists to continue killing innocents in the name of Jihad. What we don't want for Pakistan how can we want for Afghanistan?
