ISLAMABAD: Naqeebullah Ibrahimkhel, third secretary and in charge of education and student affairs in the Afghan Embassy was injured when unidentified men opened fire at him in Islamabad on Friday.
The Afghan embassy spokesperson, Shams Zardasht said that the Afghan diplomat received a bullet wound in his leg when unidentified gunmen fired at him.He was present at the market in F-10 sector of the city, Zardasht added. Ibrahimkhel was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for medical treatment. Doctors have described his condition as stable.
The spokesperson said that Ibrahimkhel had earlier gone to a market in the F-10 sector late on Wednesday when unidentified gunmen tried to kidnap him.We are not aware of the motives behind the incident and we demand the Pakistani government to investigate, Zardasht said.
The spokesperson further said that the armed men robbed Ibrahimkhel of his cell phone and money and later tried to drag him into their car.
The spokesperson said that the Director General Afghan Desk at the foreign ministry, Tipu Usman visited the injured diplomat at PIMS and called for an investigation.We demand the government of Pakistan to ensure security of all Afghan diplomats and embassy staffers to avoid such incidents in future, said Afghan ambassador Umer Daudzai in PIMS.
Islamabad police sources say they have already started investigation into the incident.
