New Delhi: Twenty Afghan children, who have seen war and violence in their country, will be exposed to democracy and India's cultural diversity on Thursday at the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.

The Indian embassy in Kabul has sent these 20 children to see India where they will see both ancient and modern structures here including the metro rail to get a feel of how democracy helps in development of a country, Army officials said.
The group of these 20 children studying in classes from Standard 8th to 12th will also witness the other Republic Day functions including the Prime Minister's NCC Rally on Saturday and the Beating Retreat on Sunday.

The Afghan children arrived in the country on January 24 and will return on February 2 after paying a visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra. The group includes three girls.
India has been helping Afghanistan in its transition towards democracy and has spent over $ 2 billion for developmental projects there.
India has also been proving help to Kabul for evolving and strengthening the institutions of democracy. India had also helped giving suggestions for the electioneering process there.

This is good. Since Afghanistan is also a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country (has always been before minorities were thrown out), this would be an example of how similar yet diverse people can live together peacefully without getting into needless fights.

nice to see this . the more cultural exchanges we have the better relations we will have.

India should start special programs for Afghan children in our schools and colleges. Will help generate a lot of goodwill.

They should think like us. Afghans are great people what they need is little environment. If they are exposed to Indian schools, colleges and universities specially young Indian generation they will learn about intolerance, modern, open society and that there are something more in this world.

We should create an Indian generation in Afghanistan.

Rather we should create a truly Afghan generation in Afghanistan and not someone's paid mercenaries.

That is nothing like mercenaries. To be Indian in mind does not make them intolerant, but opposite. Indian generation believe in secularism, democracy, tolerance and open society without compromising in terms of culture. It will be great for all countries in the region, specially India and Afghanistan itself.

Yeah but apart from that we can build 2/3 dedicated colleges for foreign students (scholarships) in India specially Afghans. We need large number of Afghans exposed to Indian society. We need them to be educated in those colleges in mass. Also giving more scholarship in current colleges/universities can make shortage for our own students.

Nice strategy to utilize the young generation of Afghanistan and making more rude TTP and ******* the countries....

Actually the students are quite different that graduate from our universities. I am talking about Afghans. There are several student interviews on from Afghan students studying in India, posted on youtube. Feel free to watch them any time.
