Top militant commanders among 17 killed as A-29s target militant hideouts in Kunar




Two top commanders of the anti-government armed militants were killed in an airstrike by the Afghan Air Force (AAF) in eastern Kunar province.

The 201st Silab Corps of the Afghan National Army (ANA) forces said the airstrike was carried out in Ghaziabad district.

According to a statement by 201st Silab Corps, the Afghan Air Force (AAF) used A-29 light attacks aircraft in the raid which left at least 17 dead including two commanders of the militants.

The statement further added that the commanders killed in the airstrike have been identified as Hamza and Akbar.

A mortar and rocket launcher along with 3 Ak-47 assault rifles and various other types of explosives belonging to the militants were also destroyed in the airstrike.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.

The Afghan forces have stepped counter-terrorism operations to suppress the insurgency activities of the militant groups as the insurgents are attempting to increase terrorist attacks by launching their spring offensive.

The Afghan forces are vastly utilizing the newly-added state of the art equipment including the A-29 Super Tucano fixed-wing aircraft to suppress the anti-government armed militant groups.

The Afghan Air Force A-29 Super Tucano pilots have flown more than 260 sorties since January when they received the first batch of the light attack aircraft from the United States.

MANPADS aren't that prevalent especially in Afghanistan. with the downfall of Gaddafi and Libya supposedly dozens if not hundreds of Igla-S went missing and smuggled out of the country.

If this was true we would have seen a lot of MANPAD launches in Syria which hasn't been the case.


A-29 is fine and i bet it has appropriate counter-measures like chaff/flares.

Take afghan media with a grain of salt. Why aren't these gains by government reported by international or independent media? Because ground reality is different. Afghanistan is nearing a collapse . Its economy has shrunk more . Foreign Aid is drying up and taliban now control more area than ever .

Well many times they publish photos too, if international media or independent media is a yardstick to measure the effectiveness than all of your Zarb-e-Azb achievements wont hold any value as even local Pakistani media is not allowed to cover it so are we suppose to take it with bucket of salt? Stop demeaning Afghans for every good thing they do.

Last news I heard was a fraction of Talibs/rebels were signing peace deal with govt. and Afghan govt. which was always begging were firm on no peace talks anymore which state they are in position of power.

Did you know many casualities there were before zarb e azb and how many there are now?

And then lets compare 2015 and 2016 in afghanistan which have been the bloodiest years in afghanistan's history . Statistics dont lie. Dont know what were you even comparing .

I think the resolution of Afghanistan's problems is only through peaceful, meaningful dialogues between Afghan govt and Taliban. The dialogue should resume soon otherwise Afghan govt may win a battle here and there but they will lose the war and cost a lot of human lives. But there are vested interests (mainly India) that do not want to see a stable Afghanistan. Ajit Doval is using Afghans to fight only among themselves but also in creating problem for Pakistan. But this will not succeed.

I hope you did, even today there was an attack in Peshawar which says a different story, and let me guess Afghan Talibans were just born out of nowhere! Right? Nobody created them, nobody supported them, right?

I am not comparing your mighty Zarb -e- Azb with tiny Afghanistan. There are no international reporter or even local press is allowed in Bloochistan and this is not me who is saying this, its your own news anchors said this multiple time. Those 1000's of reporters in Karachi, I am talking about Bloochistan, you can send me youtube link of such programs and I will apologize, its from your own anchors.

Your initial post was about zarb - e azb not Baluchistan don't back track on things . Militancy in balochistan is almost dead . Thousands have laid down their arms . Its 2016 not 2009 . Ofcourse I am not going to ask you about your insurgencies in multiple states in India . we all know how good that is going .

Its strange na! All Afghan Taliban leadership resides in Pakistan, all peace talks, strategy building in Pakistan. The sole miscreants Afghan Taliban that are killing thousands in Afghanistan are operated freely from Pakistan and yet somehow Ajit Doval is villain here!! What a logic.

Pakistan is always helping the peace process by bring all the parties to the table for a dialogue. However some elements in Afghan govt are not sincere and have their loyalties outside of their country. Pakistan has facilitated peace talks for Afghans time and again but guess who is not happy with that....India especially under Ajit Doval and Modi who are championing anti-Pakistan and anti-Muslim policies in India and outside.

One of my favorite modern aircraft. Despite how it may look to those who have never seen it before, its very sophisticated
WHo gave that jet to Afghan airforce? What r the strength of Afghan airforce?
