Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), the leading shipbuilder and naval support services provider in the Gulf region launched "Mezyad", the fourth vessel of the Baynunah Multi-Mission Corvette Class Program for the UAE Navy and the third vessel under the Baynunah fleet constructed by ADSB. The vessel was launched in the presence of senior officials from the UAE Navy and ADSB.

Mohamed Salem Al Junaibi, CEO of ADSB, said: "The launch of the Mezyad once again demonstrates ADSB's advanced capabilities and strong commitment to the highest quality standards. The Baynunah Corvette Class Program, which is the largest warship construction program and a first-of-its-kind project in the region, will significantly boost the arsenal of the UAE Navy and enable it to effectively fulfil its constitutional duty of protecting the UAE's maritime territory. The launch of the fourth vessel of the Baynunah Corvette Class Program is certainly an excellent way to start 2012, marking another milestone in our years of excellence and success as a leading shipbuilder and naval support services provider in the region and around the world. Moreover, ADSB has even more reason to celebrate as we announce the expansion of our shipbuilding facility's quay wall, which allows us to accommodate more ships and serve our clients better."

Construction of the Mezyad started with steel cutting for hull construction on May 10, 2007. The keel was laid on November 28, 2007, while the hull was completed in 2008 and the superstructure was installed later that year. The ship's hull is made of steel and the superstructure is made of marine-grade aluminium.

The leadship of the class was built in France by CMN shipyard while the 5 remaining ships of the class are to be built locally by Abu Dhabi Ship Building.

While light in displacement (right below 1,000 tons) the Baynunah class are heavily armed for their class. Designed for coastal warfare, these corvettes may also conduct blue water operations.

The Baynunah Class incorporates a few of stealth features such as sloped superstructures and all remote operated weapons. Its hull is made of steel while the superstructures are made in aluminium.

The Baynunah Class was designed for a range of missions:
-Patrolling in international waters, territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)
-Air and Surface surveillance and intelligence gathering
-Interception of enemy forces (anti-surface and anti-air warfare)
-Protection of ports
-Supporting land forces actions
-Mine layin

. . . . .
looks stealthy.........

look like evry1 want to develop its own domestic industry and less reliance on foriegn equipment

. .
It is as domestic as it gets. Sure downplay it as hard as you can maybe it will just disappear.

Brother, with all due respect, let me disagree with you and with Nav (the person you replied to). I think this Baynuna class of corvette was designed by France and the first unit was also built in France while the remainder are to built in Abu Dhabi. I think Abu Dhabi also exports military ships to Bahrain. UAE should consider promoting its UAV's to its fellow Arab brothers first of all, including Egypt, since UAE's MALE-UAV's are some of the best in the entire world, if you go to Adcom's website and read their specifications you can see that yourself.

. .
This (ship) is domestically built at ADSB (Abu Dhabi Ship Building), but you are not yet the Queen of England. So there goes your credibility.

Search for ADSB if you need to.

The Baynunah Corvettes are a unique class of warship with multi-mission capabilities, including coastal patrol and surveillance, mine detection and avoidance, helicopter operations, as well as anti-air and anti-surface capabilities. In performing these missions, Baynunah will utilize the very latest in weapons and sensor technology

Operational requirements.

The ship is designed to provide the Navies with a multi-role surface vessel capable of sustained operations throughout the GCC region. The vessels are designed to conduct peacetime patrols in their territorial waters and exclusive economic zones, together with surveillance, maritime interdiction, support to other forces, and the protection of coastline and ports.

Construction:

Steel constructed hull and deck, with superstructure fabricated from aluminium. Superstructure arrangement designed to minimise radar cross-section.

General description of Combat System:

The combat system is centred around a modern command and control system. The IPN-S will provide primary control of the major weapons systems while providing the ship's crew with a complete tactical picture combining information from ship's sensors, external communications, airborne sensors, and intelligence reports.

Primary ship sensors will include a three dimensional air search and a navigation radar with LPI capability. An EOMS infrared search and track weapons director will also be fitted. A Interrogation Friend or Foe (IFF) function for both radar sets will be provided.

The electronic warfare suite will include laser electronics countermeasures systems, a radar electronic support measures system (ESM) and a electronic support measures and communications intelligence system will also be a part of the electronics warfare suite.

The primary anti ship weapons will be 2 x Missiles. The vessel's firepower is complimented with a single 76 mm main gun and two 27 mm side guns.

The primary air defence system is centred on a vertical missile launcher system. This system will be controlled by the IPN-S combat control system a fire control system. Missile fire control will be supplemented by a continuous wave illuminator. The air defence missile system is augmented by a second set of surface to air missiles. These "fire and forget" missiles will be mounted on the weather fairing of the 27mm side guns.

All navigation system data will be collected and displayed through an Integrated Bridge system incorporating a laser gyro system for ship's reference and navigation. The integrated bridge system will include displays from the Navigation / LPI radar.

A complex network of integrated communications is provided and will include secure voice and data communications. This system will coordinate and provide communications and data sharing between the Baynunah vessels, other cooperating fleet vessels, land based command and control centres, and maritime patrol aircraft.

The vessel will also be fitted with a CHAFF launcher decoy system and RAM system

Waiting for the self proclaimed Queen of England to come out and admit his mistake.
