Emirates started the longest nonstop route at march 1st...Dubai-Auckland...EK448. 14.700 km...thats 17 hours and 40 minutes flight time...

Emirates uses the Boeing 777-200LR for this tour...this is a special version of the 777 designed for this gigantic route...

But passengers had a gigantic suprise and sensation when they entered the gate at March 1st when this new route was introduced...There was no Boeing 777...there was A380...A6-EON

experienced fliers and journalists got nervous...walked to the windows and asked if she can make this distance...

As our Manager said..."She can..and she will..." :D

305 passengers boarder the aircraft so 186 seats were empty...

At 10:20 she had takeoff with a takeoff weight of 566 tons...There a 26 flight attentendants on board as well as 4 pilots. The A380 climbed to 13.000 meters...its size made the voyage far more comfortable than the Boeing ever could. Its powerful but silent engines are much better as well.

After 17 hours and 39 minutes A6-EON landed in Auckland with a landing weight of 366 tons...

It was a gigantic sucess and i´m very proud.

That's only the current route record. Airbus used to fly longer routes.

This is Airsider.

"Flight SQ22 departed at 12.25 Singapore local time on 28th June and completed the 16,600 km (9,000 nm) sector to New York's Newark Airport in 18 hours 18 minutes. The airline beat its previous record distance for a non-stop round trip commercial service, when it introduced the A340-500 on the service between Singapore and Los Angeles on 3rd February 2004. On that occasion, the A340-500 completed the 14,093 km / 7,609 nm sector to Los Angeles"

Qatar’s national carrier has announced more than a dozen new routes at the ITB travel fair in Berlin this week, including confirmation of the debut of the world’s longest direct flight, a 17.5 hour, 9,031 mile journey from Doha to Auckland, New Zealand.

The current longest flight is operated by Emirates, which launched its 8,823 mile Dubai to Auckland flight at the beginning of this month.

The new Doha-Auckland route – the announcement of which has been heavily trailed since January – will begin on Dec. 3, and will be flown by Qatar Airways‘ Boeing 777 fleet.
