Look, let's not kid ourselves. Pakistan is the second largest market for Bollywood. In fact I would say at times [probably 1980s] Pakistani's provided almost the same box office reciepts as the Indian market.

My problem is that I have lived a cocooned life in Pakistan and USA with most of my interactions limited to close friends and families who somehow never watched Indian movies so it it a very different for me but I know many in Pakistan watch Indian garbage which is nothing but a soup of vulgarity, lewdness, hindutva and anti-Pakistan mix. So I really find it incredible that some idiots watch this crap and still like it. But I think slowly and steadily it is changing and people are moving away from the crap.

I think it varies from place to place in Pakistan. Large number of people in Lahore and Karachi have some obsession with this culture especially the Lahoris but in Multan and other places it is quite different. I don't think people in Swat and other beautiful are idiots like Lahoris... But the culture of Lahore is projected too much as representative of Pakistan which is the farthest thing from the truth.

Entirely agree with you. Most of all I am sick of Karachi being used as reflective of all of Pakistan, followed by Lahore. It's like 10% is used to shape up rest of 90%. Even PTV for instance wallows in what I call Indian [so called classic] Indian music and dance. This has to change.

I think this has to do with the skewed weightage given in favour of these two metropolis by the national broadcasting services (PTV, radio Pakistan etc) while the culture of rural areas was suppressed and only part that agreed with the culture of Lahore-Karachi got projected. Though I think the culture of Karachi still has a sort of finesse to it which is a bit lacking in Lahore.. though many may disagree with me.
I have travelled extensively through Pakistan especially in 2005-2007 and then afterwards I couldn't do that perhaps due to the degraded security situation and also due to tougher studies and establishing the business. I think post 2005 Pakistani society somehow has changed rapidly and for the most part the change has been negative but I guess now things have started to improve again but within 5-7 years we shall see a visible positive change. By the way, one of my traits is that I'm an optimist though sometimes I can get a bit overwhelmed by the negativity but on the whole, I'm always see able to see or imagine a positive picture at least for the future...so you should keep this in mind while reading my comments especially my predictions.
