The Maharashtra government has taken a serious note of MSEB terming minority dominated areas in Nalasopara Chhota Pakistan. It has asked the state minority commission to look into the matter and the commission has written to MSEB to fix responsibility and submit a report.
We have taken cognizance of the matter and asked the minority commission to look into the issue, Thanksy Thekkekara, additional chief secretary, minority development department, said.
Residents of the Muslim-dominated Santosh Bhuvan have been receiving bills from MSEB officially calling the area Chhota Pakistan.
The minority commission has asked MSEB to check which officer gave the go-ahead for the reference.
Such incidents show the communal mindset of certain officials. The incident could not have taken place without the backing of senior officials, commission chairman Munaf Hakeem said.
The commission has also asked MSEB to check if there are similar cases in other parts of the state.
MSEB, meanwhile, claimed the term Chhota Pakistan was used by applicants themselves when they applied for power connections. A man in his first application and also in a subsequent one used Chhota Pakistan. However, we agree it was wrong to use it, MSEB spokesperson Ram Dotonde said.
He claimed only 3-4 connections had addresses in which the term Chhota Pakistan was used.
MSEB has instituted an inquiry under Vasai suprintending engineer Dinesh Sabu asking him to submit a report within 15 days.
