CERN is undoubtedly the most advanced experimental facility for particle physics...which is key in the understanding of the most fundamental nature of the matter and has the potential to answer the most significant questions in the field of science i.e. the existence of the universe, its nature, size, its future etc. Pakistan has been award the status of associate member of CERN for its contribution in development of experimental facilities and participation in the experiments. This represents a great acknowledgement of the scientific advancements especially in physics in the country. In the past, Pakistani scientists have contributed to the development of this field and most notable of them was Dr Abdus Salam who presented the grand unification theory (GUT) and succeeded in establishing it experimentally. His discovery for rewarded with a Nobel prize in 1979. Participation in CERN will go a long way in furthering the quality of research in Pakistan and also impact positively on the image of the nation globally. Also noticeable is the absence india from this project.

Unfortunately Abdus Salam is one of the most demonized members of Pakistani society. His contributions andworkj have given much to the nation but he is an Ahmedi and thus victim of some of the worst vitroil and hatred in the entire country. Lets adopt a secular framework in the country so that all can progress and work hard for Pakistan collectively.

I am a practicing Muslim but I deeply respect Dr Abdus Salam for his contribution to the science. He was a patriot; he even wore is national dress at Nobel prize ceremony, I even heard that he wanted to open the theoretical physics centre in Pakistan. In academic and scientific circle, he is still respected in Pakistan and there is a chair founded after him (Abdus Salam Chair). His work is ground breaking since all the current research in physics based on his work on particles and unification theory. I hope we all benefit from his scientific contribution and respect our national heroes
