What's new

A Chinese blogger writes: "I never thought that the Indian army could penetrate so deeply until this confrontation in 2020."

It's neither from China nor India

Herrenknecht AG is a German company that manufactures tunnel boring machines, headquartered in Allmannsweier, Schwanau, Baden-Württemberg. It is the worldwide market leader for heavy tunnel boring machines.

Oh and as usual this was an American invention..not Chinese.

In 1952, James S. Robbins developed the first modern tunnel boring machine for the Oahe Dam Project in South Dakota. (Image from The Robbins Company.)

This company is the leader in TBM's, we provided security to their German Engineers working with the Chinese on camp at Neelum–Jhelum Hydropower Plant. 129million Euros of rock crushing beast:

So, even US stealthy fighters F 35 have Chinese made parts.

Which parts are these? That magnet identified as not coming from an approved source? That's your claim for the F-35?

If the current boring machines still work for the purposes, why would anyone have to invent new ones with different techniques. It's like asking people to invent a car with 3 or 5 wheels just to be different.

This is why the Chinese are complete failures at innovation. Your mindset is the absolute worst and sets you up for constant underachievement.

Do you really really really think there were no tunnel boring machines before that new 1952 Robbins design??? Of course there was and they worked. But the Robins technique worked better.

Maybe you also thought Nokia had the best phone technique in 2000 and there was no reason to improve something that works. Well smartphones came out and showed that technique was far from being the best...and somebody didn't improve it by simply adding a 5th wheel.

There is no reason to think current tunnel boring tech is at its best. That mindset just has failure written all over it.

129million Euros? OMG.

Western companies are really good at harvesting...

Why then haven't you so innovative Americans invented a complete new boring machine since 1950s ? 5G or 4G Smartphones are the results of tech advancements from 3G. That's why you Americans are behind in 5G then ?

Nice buying an old HerrenKnecht machine from overseas, changing cutting teeth and painting the Indian tricolor on it. That too a tiny one for metros.

Dhokeybaaj people doing propaganda again.

It is hard to imagine a nation of 1.4 plus Billion people led by a dictator relying on propaganda shell games to convince his electorate that India is still a superpower despite lacking the capability to make simple civil engg. equipment like tunnel boring machines (TBM's). In the "SwarajyaMag" the laments of this are way too many.

"There is a pressing need to indigenise tunnelling equipment as far as possible to increase the deployment of modern machinery, reduce the costs and cut short service timelines. Among the key equipment that should be made in India, Patil counts heavy-duty loaders, Liebherr excavators (for loose strata), telehandlers, grouting pumps, Schaeff loaders, drum cutters, hydraulic crawler drill machines, side-dumping loaders (such as the CAT 850 model), etc.

“We’re missing the indigenous production of semi and fully automatic drill jumbo machines, semi and fully automatic shotcrete machines for NATM tunnelling, advanced technology in TBMs manufactured for mining (such as advance probing and tunnel seismic prediction technology) and advanced equipment for cross-passage structure execution (to ease smooth construction in confined spaces),” says Ram Gopal Saini, Founder, Promoter and Director, Mega Metro Engineering.

No TBMs are currently manufactured in India. NONE.

The bright spot is that as an OEM of HDD machines they can manufacture a variety of special tools and equipment like Mud Motor, Mud Pump, Mud Recycling Systems and offer them as a complete package to projects.

Yeah all will sit in the showroom being showroom queens.

Such is the quality of Indian engineering products. Cheap JCB this and JCB that for village road construction.

And learn to read, these aren't the tunnel borer scale of machines the article asked for. These are the heavy duty items used for mining which isn't made in India yet - the limits of your limited Gyaan is laid bare for all to see.....

No one in their right mind buys any of your engg. products except in India they are forced to - by govt. tariff structure. Thanks for providing the list so I can ignore all of your troll buddies.

Good riddance !!

Undergarment stitchers talking about "Indian engineering products".
Because you're a wretched, primitive swamp which no one really gives a damn, Raqibool. No one, absolutely no one will say "wow" when they hear about anyone supplying their engineering products for your primitive sweatshop coolies... :cheesy:

As for the likes of Indian engineering goods:
Engineering exports from India, after reaching their all-time high at $112.16 billion during fiscal 2021-22, finished fiscal 2022-23 at $107.04 billion conceding a decline of 4.57 per cent

Listen Raqibool, we'll talk about technology when your wretched swamp can secure atleast 10 patents at USPTO an year... As of now, it's too complicated a matter for rickshaw pullers and sweatshop coolies to discuss, don't you think?
