Faster to Yunnan with new high-speed rail

The Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway is set to open in late December, making the over 2,300 kilometer journey take only nine hours, said a tourism promotion campaign of Kunming.

Currently, the direct regular rail between Shanghai and Kunming, Shanghai–Kunming Railway, would take a whopping 35-40 hours.

The section that links Shanghai and Guiyang was opened last year.

After the other part of the railway opening at the end of 2016, passengers will need only nine hours from Shanghai to Kunming, as the speed being 350km/h.

The high-speed rail will also cut travel times from Hangzhou to Kunming to 8 hours, 5.5 hours if you start from Nanchang and 4 hours from Changsha.

Yunnan province has been one of the top ten most popular cities for tourists in China, with this year's number of tourists to Kunming double that of last year, according to tourism site lvmama.com.

The new Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway also makes it possible for tourists in neighboring provinces such as Sichuan to make trips there on weekends.

Kunming's tourism authorities said that after the opening of the high-speed railway, the number of tourists to Kunming is expected to rise from 10.25% to 20%.

In 2020, the number of trips by people to Kunming is expected to be 150 million, with an estimated 30 million brought by high-speed railways.

Analysts from lvmama.com are also estimating that the price of high-speed train tickets to Kunming is expected to be significantly lower than the price of airplane tickets.

Yunnan is also helping budget travelers by instating some policies for the grand opening of the new high-speed railway link.

Within the first month since the opening day, some hotels will offer 10% to 50% discounts, and tickets for scenic areas will be a 50% cheaper if you can present a Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway ticket.

It's China's priority to built infrastructure in China's poorest region.

Take a bow, construction team.
What an effort in such difficult terrains to attempt what is arguably the most challenging of rail technology.

There are countless bridges and tunnels on Guiyang-Kunming section of this HSR....
It took less than 2 years to built the Shanghai-Hangzhou section, comparably, more than 6 years for the west section.

Karst landforms are disasters to all civil engineers.
Flooding inside the tunnels is the most dangerous.....
I hope when the railway opens, there will be sufficient linemen, along with automatic inspecting facilities to ensure the absolute safety.

Guiyang-Kunming section is the last section to be opened. How many cities in between? I've never heard of any except for Guiyang and Kunming!

lol....I understand your concern, I'm pretty sure most Chinese have no ideas.
There are actually some "quite big" cities, at least some 3-4 tier cities in the making and some national level development zones.

The biggest city other than Guiyang and Kunming (both tier 3 cities) is Anshun, a tier 4 city in Guizhou Province.
I guess you've heard of it if you have ever read China's history of early 20th century.
I've been there on my way to Huangguoshu Waterfall, I could personally confirm she is a relatively big city developing very very quickly.

Nice development. 8 years are bit high looking to money power of China but it is a well come development.

. .
8 years is probably quite long for China though thousands of people have taken part.
If it is built in another country other than China, I guess 28 years won't be enough.

Atleast you can keep your BS in control when somebody praises china.

No when I say 8 years is bit high looking at Chinese capability means I rate China even higher in their project completion capability. It is a compliment to China and there was no need to expose his ill mentality.

.
We shall start to build HSR from Xing jiang to Gwadar port.

Up to now, the only HSR in Xinjiang is Lanzhou-Urumqi HSR.
I would say there won't be that much need for a HSR crossing the border, but a freight railway is needed.

He was the one who used a Chinese photo to fake, and after his lie was caught red-handed, he lied again and claimed two bridges looked similar (the fact is two bridges have completely different colours). And he came here to accuse a member who has never talked about military in details. lmao. Another lie debunked!

.
Damn, I just be concerned over the HSR line linking Xiamen to Chengdu, which will pass through my downtown, each time go to my wife's downtown is suffering Now.:cry::cry:
