KHAR: Eight people were killed and 22 injured as a result of a blast in the Pashat market of Salarzai area in Bajaur Agency on Thursday.

The market is owned by Shahabuddin Khan, a former Awami National Party (ANP) MNA and currently a leader of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), said a local in Salarzai. He is considered to be pro-government.

A political administration official said that it was not clear what type of blast this was, but added it appeared to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which had detonated when people were busy purchasing daily use items.

The blast also destroyed two vehicles and four shops.

Administration officials and security forces rushed to the site and cordoned off the area after the blast. Communication was not possible as the system is currently not working.

An official at the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Khar told The Express Tribune that among those killed were two children, and that 22 injured had also been brought to the hospital.

Three of the injured were reported to be in critical condition and were shifted to Peshawar for further treatment.

The official said that there was a possibility that the number of casualties might rise. “They are all civilians and there is no security officer there.”

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.

The Salarzai are a pro-government tribe and have been on the hit list of militants for a long time.

I disagree, the TTP were known for overkill, they always carried out suicide mission and boasted of their suicide bomber brigades, to set off a ton of explosives was a weekly target. Now they are down to IEDs and Hit and Runs, I'd say their fire power is giving way.

People are accustomed to these type of news, it has become a daily part of their life. Batman killer is something people don't see often. Its an out of the box crime.

For example, In India, thousands of child die every day but the sensational story like child who fell in a bore hole gets way more coverage in every media channel even when both incidents have common denominator of govt.'s negligence.

Therefore, the media covers only sensational part.

One can still not hold himself from despising these these cowards when they attack armed security personnel.. But blowing up civilians and KIDS.. Thats the lowest of the lows.. Right in the category of attackers of Mumbai and 9/11
