7 Indian-origin people in top positions at Google
Google recently promoted Sundar Pichai, an IITian who is the senior vice president of the company's Chrome and Apps division, as the head of Android. However, Pichai is not the only person of Indian origin in the top rung at Google. There are many others who are playing crucial roles at the internet search titan and have made their presence felt in senior leadership and management positions.
So, here are 7 Indian-origin people holding prominent positions at Google.
Nikesh Arora, senior vice president and chief business officer
According to Google's official website Nikesh oversees all revenue and customer operations, as well as marketing and partnerships. Since joining Google in 2004, he has held several positions with the company. Most recently, he led Google's global direct sales operations.
He has also developed and managed the company's operations in the European, Middle Eastern and African markets and was responsible for creating and expanding strategic partnerships in those regions.
Prior to joining Google, he was chief marketing officer and a member of the management board at T-Mobile Europe. Nikesh holds a master's degree from Boston College and an MBA from Northeastern University, both of which were awarded with distinction. He also holds the CFA designation. In 1989, Nikesh graduated from the Institute of Technology in Varanasi, India with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
Sundar Pichai, Google Android chief
Pichai, who has a BTech degree from IIT Kharagpur, joined Google in 2004. Pichai, is in charge of the company's Chrome Web browser and operating system for lightweight laptop computers. Although he isn't focused on advertising sales, Pichai's success with the Chrome browser during the past four years has helped Google generate more revenue.
"Going forward, Sundar Pichai will lead Android, in addition to his existing work with Chrome and Apps. Sundar has a talent for creating products that are technically excellent yet easy to use-and he loves a big bet," Larry Page, Google's chief executive wrote in the blogpost.

According to his official website (Amit Singhal's Homepage), Amit Singhal joined Google in 2000. He did his BS in Computer Science from University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee).
Principal Scientist At Google he has have worked on using IR techniques to improve web search. Singhal says that he was persuaded to join Google by his friend Krishna Bharat, who is a Principal Scientist at the web search giant.
Vic Gundotra, chief of Google+
This Indian origin senior leader at Google lives in Mountain View, CA. According to his Google+ account (https://plus.google.com/+VicGundotra/), Vic Gundotra fell 'in love' with the power of software at the age of 11. To quote him, he is still in love with it.
Under the leadership of Chief Executive Larry Page and Vic Gundotra, Google has made its social Web efforts a top priority in recent years. Google's aggressive push to implement Google+ has been controversial even within the company, and Google+ chief Vic Gundotra had to downplay suggestions of internal disagreements over its roll-out in recent press interviews.
Krishna Bharat, principal scientist
Krishna Bharat is a principal scientist at Google Inc, working in the area of user interface and algorithmic support for Web search and content analysis (Web Information Retrieval).
According to Google's website, Krishna Bharat graduated with a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Georgia Tech in 1996. Before joining Google in 1999, he was a member of the research staff at DEC Systems Research Center in Palo Alto, CA.
Krishna is the creator of Google News. Also, he received the 2003 World Technology Award for Media & Journalism. Krishna is the acting head of Google's new R&D Center in Bangalore India.
Lalitesh Katragadda, Head of Google's research for emerging markets
Lalitesh Katragadda is the Indian who wrote Google Map Maker! Currently Katragadda says that he ensures barriers such as language do not prevent the millions of new users from getting online and making the most of what companies like Google have to offer.
In an interview to ET, Katragadda said that the challenge before Google is to make the next 3 billion people go online in the next decade. "In India, we have a target of getting the next 200 million users go online from the current 100-120 million. India will be able to easily achieve 150 million users but to reach about 300-500 million users is a big task," he said.
Manik Gupta, senior product manager, Google Maps
Manik Gupta is currently based in Mountain View, California. According to his Google+ profile (https://plus.google.com/u/0/117694109416186891571/about), Manik Gupta was earlier based in Bangalore as the product manager for Google Map Maker / Google Maps & Local Search for India.
Gupta has done his MBA from Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, India. He is also B.A Sc (Computer Engineering) from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
