ITANAGAR, Aug 31 – Six airstrips, called Advanced Landing Grounds (ALGs), being developed by Indian AirForce (IAF) in remote parts of Arunachal Pradesh bordering China, would be made functional by 2014.
This was divulged by Eastern Air Command Senior Officer Administration Air Vice Marshal K S Gill, while calling on the State Governor Lt Gen (Retd) J J Singh at Raj Bhawan here last evening.

Once completed, the long-overdue ALGs would help the IAF to operate heavier transport aircrafts and improve the capabilities of Defence forces to move their troops to this frontier State quickly. Apart from transporting Army troops and paramilitary personnel for deployment, IAF’s responsibility is also to ferry civilians in inaccessible areas of the border State and tourists visiting those areas.

Briefing on the work progress, the Air Vice Marshall Gill informed the Governor that each of these ALGs at Mechuka, Tuting, Aalo, Ziro, Walong and Pasighat will have resurfaced and re-laid runway, air traffic control complex, crash bay, messes, boundary walls, guard room and associated infrastructure.

“The facility at Walong will be made as heliport. A total area of 240 acres will be acquired in the extension works of the runway in Aalo, Pasighat,Tuting, Ziro and Mechuka,” Gill said adding that “if these ALGs were used properly, Arunachal Pradesh would have been a different place.”

The Air Vice Marshall further informed that as an innovative effort of IAF to have personnel from North Eastern region, it is going to set up an Air Force Selection Board at Guwahati. In addition to this, the IAF will set up a fast track selection board at Itanagar, where interested candidates will be screened and recommended for jobs, he added.

Governor Gen Singh, while appreciating the IAF, especially the Eastern Air Command for their humanitarian services rendered during the time of emergencies in the past, assured his full support in removing the bottleneck, if any, for early completion of the ALGs.

We need more ALGs in uttarakhand and Leh Areas.

in Ladakh Leh Uttarakand and in NE don't worry MMRCA Sukhois LCA's will replenish the force depleted IAF soon

Though late a good move. The air war is more important for the high Himalayan region than land.

Exactly. And with whatever advanced weapons u have but when winter sets in no side can afford to keep their soldiers stationed across the border. They will have to go back to their positions. The real war would be between IAF & PLAAF.

And with top line Su30MKI, MMRCA and FGFA plaaf don't stand a chance. We can not only defend our land but throw some punch in retaliation as well..

Also the C-17, Akash SAM and new radars will be deployed along China border. We need more airlift.

.
india must improve his infrastructure in borderareas with china ,as china had much advancement in infrastructure (rail ,road & air base) in border areas with india

.
Apart from these ALGs, West Bengal needs more airbases to save chicken neck + Himanchal Pradesh-Uttrakhand.

.
This is very late move by our govt,Already Chinese bases are in operational. we need to put SAM's,SU 30 MKI's n Armed troops with highly destructive weaponry. we should not give any chance to those chinese troops.
