At least 6,785 personnel of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) lost their lives until mid-November last year, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) John Sopko said in his latest report.

Citing the Afghan government figures provided to US Forces for Afghanistan (USFOR-A), Sopko said at least 11,777 ANDSF personnel were also wounded during the same period.

“From January 1, 2016, through November 12, 2016, according to figures provided by the Afghan government to USFOR-A, 6,785 ANDSF service members were killed and an additional 11,777 members were wounded,” the report said.

It further added “DOD reported the majority of ANDSF casualties continue to be the result of direct-fire attacks, with IED explosions and mine strikes accounting for much lower levels of casualties.”

According to the report, citing USFOR-A, the ANDSF assigned force strength was 315,962 (not including civilians) as of November 26, 2016.

“The ANA is at 86.3% and the ANP at 94% of authorized strength, not including civilian employees.206 The November 2016 assigned-strength number reflects a decrease of 1,295 personnel over the same period last year,” the report said.

The report also added that “Compared to last quarter, the ANP had a decrease of 845 personnel, the first time it has decreased in strength in a year. The ANA (including Afghan Air Force and civilians) decreased by 1,108 personnel.”

“When ANA civilians are excluded, the decrease in ANA military strength was 902 personnel,” the report said.

That's quite a huge number of professional Afghan soldiers being lost in a single year. Looks-like a useless military.

. .
plus half of their army consists of ghost soldiers.....the corrupt politicians and general take pay of those ghost soldiers....
https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-mi...ghost-soldiers-from-afghan-payroll-1484822415
they always lie about causalities ....which are huge in numbers ....
there soldiers sell ammunition to taliban.....
https://texasnews.online/afghan-soldiers-are-selling-american-weapons-to-the-taliban/
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...an-addicted-drugs-kidnap-rape-young-boys.html
there soldiers fire bullets in the air and sell the empty shell as scrape to earn money ....
http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKCN100312
next they would be blaming us for their politicians corruption ...
how easy it was for them to not see their faults and blame neighbour for everything .....
the Taliban's are afghans and so is ANA ....ANA kill them even in ceasefire so they retaliate .....
taliban hold 49 percent of Afghanistan , how much more do the world powers need to know that fighting is not a solution but dialog is the only solution .....and in dialog both parties have to share power in some form and give and take on some points ....
the afghan problem can be solved in a day , if both parties talk....
Ashraf ghani government like any other government wants to stick to power , without realising the facts , that his government is restricted to kabul.... He wants to kill the taliban while asking them for negotiations at the same time ....thats not how things are done ....they can call off ceasefire and it would be a complete ceasefire on both sides and no breech in it and then talk .....

Taliban offensive were major failure this year.
They could gain any cities.
Taliban control 10% of Population and 20% area. GOVT control 65% population and area.
Rest is contested.
And this gem was posted a few days ago by an Indian member.

The Northern Alliance is a corrupt regime that acts against the Afghan people. Whilst the Taliban aren't saints, they have proven to not only be more competent but have also proven to hold the people of Afghanistan's interests to a much larger extent.

Another useless American war comes to an end after thousands of lives lost and they were unable to get the result they wanted

looks like india has [once again] abandoned its close ally afghanistan , lately they are making no sounds not so much as even breaking wind when it comes to situation in afghanistan

Not to mention desertions and ghost soldiers. No wonder the government is increasingly relying on warlords including the vice presidents own militia (See below). Something which is making the Northern Alliance even weaker. This is a huge worry for the region as ISIS will make gains as Kabul continues to show its weakness.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) released its annual report regarding civilian casualties incurred during the year 2016.

The UN mission said it documented 11,418 civilian casualties between 1st January 2016 to 31st December, 2016.

According to the report, civilian casualties incurred by the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group operating in Afghanistan, has increased by almost 10 times.

UNAMA documented 899 civilian casualties (209 deaths and 690 injured) in comparison to 82 civilian casualties (39 deaths and 43 injured) in 2015, the report said, adding that the primary tactics used by the group were suicide attacks and target killings.

It also added that the rate of sectarian attacks has sharply increased and at least 87 people were killed and 291 others were injured during the year, which shows a 6% increased as compared to 2015 where 42 deaths and 14 injured were reported.

The remaining 1,099 civilian casualties (286 deaths and 813 injured) documented by the mission was attributed to unidentified anti-government elements where there was no public claim of responsibility.
