BENAPOLE: Around 6,000 goods-laden trucks are waiting in Petrapole's Kalitala parking lot of India to cross into Benapole Port.

As the goods-laden trucks have been stranded, trade between the two countries has been greatly affected. It has already had a major impact on revenue collection. Halt in trade between the two countries is becoming increasingly frequent, caused by various complications that are being deliberately stoked. Toll worth millions of rupees is extorted from the trucks every day in the Kalitola Parking lot.

Importers and C&F agents have reduced imports through Benapole land port due to long delays in importing goods. Trade with India through this port is worth Tk 300 billion (30,000 crore) annually. Benapole Customs House, directly and indirectly, earns revenue of Tk 100 billion (10,000 crore) in a fiscal year. Seven to eight hundred truckloads of goods are imported from India every day through Benapole port. At present, the number has come down to 200-300.

Indian Bangaon Municipality has created a privately-owned park called Kalitala Parking lot and forces the trucks to park in the park. Traders said at present it takes 30 to 50 days for a truck to enter Bangladesh. All the extorted money has to be paid by the Bangladeshi importers.

Benapole Customs Commissioner Azizur Rahman held a meeting with the Indian customs, port, and traders yesterday. Matiar Rahman, director of the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce, said, “A strong syndicate has been formed at the Indian port of Petrapole and Kalitola Parking on the other side of Benapole port centring the import of goods by land”.

Mofizur Rahman Sazan, president of the Benapole Custom C & F agents Association, said 80 per cent of raw materials of the country's industrial units and garment industries as well as various food items are imported through the Benapole port. “Delays in importing goods are having an impact on many industries as well as revenue collection”, he added.

Benapole Customs Commissioner Azizur Rahman said, "We are holding regular meetings with Indian customs, port and traders to increase revenue and the import-export activities. At present, about 6,000 trucks are stuck up in the Kalitala parking lot of India's Petrapole Port. As a result, the revenue income has decreased to a great extent."

This is great news....shut down the border altogether.

Find alternate sources other than India and import via sea from Pakistan, Indonesia, Turkey, China rather than from these Sanghis.

Screw these unreliable Indian Banya ba$tards and these Indian cheap-a$$ syndicates extorting money. All the more reason not to import anything from India. Reduce dependency on India to zero.

They can go jump in the lake as far as I'm concerned.

Whatever you say, but the reality is without Indian finished and semi-finished goods, most are industrial, it is BD that go jump into Buriganga.

So, ask the GoB to build industries through private ownership and ask these private people not to steal bank money and flee to Quwait or Canada.

Really ? Let's wait and see if you are correct or not!

I would say without Bangladesh, west Bengal and seven sisters economy will jump in the ganges and Brahmaputra!.

Wait sir , Rome wasn't built in a day. It's not easy to fight them.

Wait for another rigged election or at least for national unity govt and then watch magic!

Has India already send the second dose AZ vaccine to BD that has been ordered by BD gov in early 2021 ?

Massive eff-up as usual by India and Indian Company.

They only sent part of it...a meagre ten million doses so far, and those too late as well, most of the dead from Covid in our country could have been avoided.

The second tranche came in recently with only one million doses in October 9. Its a joke.

This is for the 30 million doses we paid money for ALREADY from almost the start of covid and they have now delayed for a year, maybe more. Highlights how unreliable a supplier Indian companies are. Their supply screw-ups are not our concern. They basically failed their critical commitment. Too little and too late. I am sorry, you can call these people nothing but a bunch of nincompoop idiots.

Bangladesh govt. and shameless Beximco which ordered vaccine from India have egg on their faces.

If we had any shame left we'd order nothing from India again.

Short version below....
  • Bangladesh entered into a deal with the SII to purchase 30 million doses of a potential vaccine developed by AstraZeneca year before last.
  • Bangladesh was supposed to get five million doses of vaccine per month as SII and Bangladesh’s Beximco Pharma signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for priority delivery of the vaccine doses.
  • Bangladesh has so far received only 7 million of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine doses produced by SII through its contract.
  • Bangladesh also received 3.3 million doses of the vaccine from India as a bilateral partnership gift.

Exactly. Entire economies of WB, Assam, in fact all seven sisters are dependent on Bangladesh economy (except maybe oil from Assam).

All the oldest and largest FMCG and industrial supply companies in India are headquartered in Kolkata (all with turnover in excess of 500 crore rupees) which are heavily and disproportionately dependent on export to Bangladesh. If we stop buying - the fun will start. We will see then where the BJP and RSS idiots get their money from. Two birds with one stone.

Birla, Balmers Lawrie, Berger Paints, Brittania Biscuits, Emami, Exide, ITC India, Kesoram, Linde (Oxygen supply and other industrial gases), Usha Martin, Kesoram, the list of large Bangladesh-dependent companies HQ'd in Kolkata goes on and on.

We have alternate suppliers, but do they have alternate customers? Remains to be seen.

Nah , other than colony ( as they are using us like this) no one will buy their garbage.

Why should people waste their hard earning money to get their garbage? Specially if you have to buy it with more money? No reason.

That's why high tax on Indian goods , period!

With rest of message , all are exactly my words.

Some Indians are laughing, but trust me their laughing will soon turn to lament, but no one will feel sorry for them!

@Bilal9 bhai!

Some of these Sanghis are still hanging on every Bangladeshi thread like leeches (like they are wanted here).

They don't like it when people show the true face of Sanghi-land....
