575 more Chinese buses for Punjab

LAHORE The Punjab Government and Chinas Anhui Ankai Automobile Company Limited here on Monday signed an agreement for the supply of as many as 575 modern CNG air-conditioned buses to ply in big Punjab cities.
Lahore Transport Company Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan and Wang Jiangan, of the Chinese firm, signed the document at a ceremony held in the presence of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, MPA Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmed, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries of Transport and Finance departments and senior officials of the Chinese company.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said the agreement was a welcome step and the buses would ply in Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Multan and other big cities. The best operators will be selected to run the transport system,he said and added that, in past, for the first time an organized transport system was introduced in the form of the Daewoo Bus Service during his last tenure.
He said that a modern urban transport system is being set up in all major cities of the province with the cooperation of China and agreements in this regard reflect Pak-China friendship. He said that CNG air-conditioned buses are being operated in Lahore with the cooperation of Foton Company and now an agreement has been signed with Ankai company for acquiring 575 such buses. Wang Jiangan said that prosperity of Pakistani people is dearer to him than commercial interests and all out cooperation will be extended for providing modern buses to the people of Punjab on soft terms.
MEETING: Assembly members belonging to various districts met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and apprised him of the ongoing development projects and problems of the people of their respective areas. Talking to elected representatives, the Chief Minister said that all out resources are being utilized for the speedy development of the province and prosperity of masses. He said that special attention is being paid to poverty alleviation and elimination of unemployment. He said that timely and transparent completion of all development projects is being ensured and every penny of public money is being utilized on the welfare and uplift of the masses. He called upon elected representatives to ensure timely and transparent completion of development projects in their respective areas and spare no effort for resolving peoples problems.
