In my school even Sikhs weren't allowed to wear turbans. For Muslim girls, they could not wear hijab inside the school campus and on the school bus. Also you couldn't speak your mother tongue in class. You could speak Hindi only during the Hindi class period. Apart from the school uniform, even books were provided by the school (included in the fees of course). This was done so that all students are equal regardless of their affluence, caste and creed.

Obviously this was told well in advance before admission, but the place had very good education and facilities for very less fees as it was a non profit institution.
