If affordability is not a major concern then go for Samsung Q900-82, we have its predecessor sort of (S9-Curved-105) and its worth every penny spend on it.

Q900 series is relatively cheaper 55 incher will cost you about $2.5G

Go to CNET & search for the best 4k TVs to buy. Last year I bought a TCL C6 (android) TV based on a CNET review & have loved it ever since. Best thing is it comes with a Harman Kardon sound bar & the sound quality is bombastic to say the least. The Colour reproduction is better than both Sony & Samsung TVs in my house.

Very limited 8k content available

Alot of existing content can be upscaled to 4k, which is currently being done

I have read (not for definite) but you cant upscale existing content upto 8k hence 8k content must be original so it will take ALOT of time to get a decent amount of 8k content

8k tvs very expensive

Alot of questions over whether human eye can even really differentiate between 4k and 8k


My advice: Go for a good brand 4k tv, it will last you years until 8k tech matures

Hi Guys,

I have been using a 50" full HD TV mostly for watching news and talk shows & youtube videos and I did not upgrade it since I had purchased a 4K projector Sony VPL for home cinema experience for watching movies and live sports events. Now a lot of content is available in 4K and it is a hassle to go to the basement to start up the whole system to watch a 15 minute video. The old panel will be installed in the kitchen so that we can watch recipes while cooking instead of 12" iPad screen.

Hence, we (me & my wife) have decided to upgrade the TV since good discounts are available (i.e. summer sales) and now the natural upgrade is 4K but even 8K displays are also available but those are quite expensive and not much content is available for 8K. However, in 2-3 years 8K will become common so buying 8K TV is future safe as 4K upgrade will be short lived and we would need to upgrade it..

So what are your suggestions guys.. 4K or 8K and which model, price, quality & your experience?

I recently upgraded to an LG 65" OLED 4K TV. I find 8K to be too pricey right now and as u mentioned there isn't enough 8K content out there and I don't think it's gonna be that much different in 2-3 years. There would for sure be more things like movies in 8K...but ur everyday news broadcast and other such things are too far off...so unless u plan on downloading this 8K content like movies and watching it on ur TV a lot...it would just be a needlessly expensive TV.

As for 4K, there's already enough content, the picture quality(especially that OLED) is great, and it's reasonably priced. The LG TVs also come with Google assistant and in my case I already have my house hooked up with smart devices that work with Google assistant(like lights, thermostat, etc.) so it was super convenient for me to get a TV with Google assistant. Looking around for the remote is a thing of the past...u can literally just command ur TV with ur voice. I would recommend that u go for 4K instead of 8K...and look for a Google assistant functionality(unless u r on some other ecosystem already like Alexa)...brand is up to u whatever is ur preference. If in the future u find that 8K has come down enough in pricing and there's enough 8K content...then u can always put this 4K TV in ur bedroom...and buy an 8K for ur living room.

8K is going to come but at this point you will pay the early adopters premium and TBH there is virtually no 8K content available and will not be widely available for some years to come. 4K is the way to go

I found Klipsch to be a lil sharp for my taste, i settled for Polk's paired with Onkyo receiver

bhai i make cinema for living and i am certified projectionist and level-1 tech support, we cannot differentiate between a uncompressed 1080p and 2k/4k often from a distance, it's all marketing hype so forget about 8k

stick to 4k its going to take some time for 4k content to become common, 8k and even 4k is over kill for home environment but certainly awesome for companies and marketeers who can sell them to people who love bragging rights

Couldn't agree more. 4K is still many years away to replace Full HD.

8K will make sense in about 10 years and 100 inch screens.

Ideal setup Rotel Processor something like Rotel 1576 or earlier (in pre mode only custom screwed each op AMP to be replaced by OPA627 TO99 packing), self made 5 Class A monoblocks with independent toroids, Yamaha YST-SW800 and SW1000 downfiring Sub, Polk Center and front, satellite and rear set alternately a B&W Sub, center and front, satellites and rear by polk.
