Breaking News: Times of India exclusive

The proposed mountain strike corps, with over 40,000 soldiers and headquartered at Panagarh in West Bengal, will for the first time give India the capability to also launch offensive action into Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) in the event of a Chinese attack. The corps will have two high-altitude divisions for rapid reaction.

India has already raised two new infantry divisions at Lekhapani and Missamari in Assam in 2009-10. They are operationally tasked to defend Arunachal Pradesh.

India is also beefing up its missile and fighter capabilities along the China border in its desperate bid to catch up with a burgeoning China's military capabilities and developed infrastructure up to the border.

Govt set to clear 40,000-strong force along China border - The Times of India

???? - ??

Tibet is China's soft belly. India knows it well. If a foreign military somehow penetrates deep into Tibet, given the internal tension and the local populations' antagonism toward China, the Chinese forces, no matter how well equipped they are, will emerge helpless in defending the vast region with a vast border.

When India, even in this time of economic hardships, is spending Rs 62,000 Crore to deploy such number of troops under China's soft belly, India is not going to spend such huge amount of money for no reasons.

misleading tittle may launch and give capability is 2 diffrent things

I like how even the ToIlet rag acknowledged it was a "desperate bid to catch up". Finally, some concrete evidence that there's a limit to its delusions.

still,no news on M-777..should've been cleared years ago.and How Armor will effect this kind of warfare and which kind of armor we should induct on this??BTR is nice for an airdrop, but I've heard it is problemetic to operate mountainous region..which kind of Ligt Tank/IFV is needed??? @Abingdonboy @sancho

shoddy journalism..India already has over 10 divisions(around 100000-130000 soldiers) dedicated to mountain warfare, and 2 of these divisions are strike divisions.so,India can still launch offensive in TAR..this new corps only taking this into a new dedicated level.a whole new strike corps operating with 2 new Tank Brigades and 6 new Armored Divisions operating along with Airforce in tandem..not to mention 2 new mountain divisions coming up in N-E.

Indian troops already in our TAR which a part of China's territory including Indian so called Arunachal, may Chinese and Indian to know with sadness and pleasure respectively.

I think in your comment, you placed "sadness and pleasure" in wrong order..as for start,Tibet isn't China's territory for start.and second, the border of Arunachal Pradesh was delineated by Tibet in 1914,and thats the border we recognize as Tibet was part of China for a very small time.China can't claim every part some chinese kingdom hold in some ancient time as their territory.and most of the part of that state was ruled by Ahom and Assamese until the annexation of India by the British in 1858 and never ruled by either Bhutan or Tibet.

Maybe the outline of tibet is alternative but TAR really including the area which is also a state of India.India recognize tibet as a part of China may base on the definition as you concluded.
