KHUZDAR: Forty terrorists were killed in an operation by the Frontier Corps (FC) in the Farod area of Kalat district, around 300 kilometres southwest of Quetta, on Monday.
Ten FC personnel were also injured in the incident. According to an FC spokesman, a search operation against the terrorists was continuing.He said the terrorists used heavy weapons against the security personnel. The operation was monitored by the IGFC, Maj Gen Ijaz Shahid.
The toll could not be independently verified. The FC said in a statement, “Around 40 insurgents belonging to the Baloch Republican Army (BRA) and Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) were killed during the operation.
“Six vehicles were also destroyed during the operation and it is still going on.” Security and rebel accounts of clashes often differ greatly and spokesmen for the two separatist groups have so far declined to comment.
Some local residents told AFP a military helicopter had been shot down, but the FC denied the reports. It said the helicopter made an emergency landing on a road in Kalat and the pilot and co-pilot were safe. It was learnt that 10 Ferrari camps had also been destroyed in the operation. The fighting in Balochistan attracts little public attention, unlike the clashes with the Taliban in the northwest.
