40 Sensitive Pakistan Government Websites got Hacked by Indian Hackers

Islamabad, Nov 30 (PTI) Over 35 Pakistani government websites went on a blink and the authorities blamed a group called "Indian Cyber Army".

An official spokesman said the government took action to secure the hacked websites and most of them were restored by the afternoon.

Among the sites that were hacked was that of the National Accountability Bureau, Pakistan''s main anti-corruption agency.

A message posted by the hackers on the website of NAB read: "Hacked by Indian Cyber Army". The message was accompanied by a historical photograph of US soldiers raising a flag on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima in World War II but the American flag was replaced with an Indian one.

In an email sent to media outlets, the Indian Cyber Army claimed to have gained "root access" to the server hosting the government websites.

The group hacked at least 36 of the 40 websites hosted on the server.

when the hell did we start this???
well i dont think its actually a govt controlled cyber attack or else they would not disclose their identity in such a manner.
i believe govt hackers would be a bit more professional.
eg: i like the chinese hackers, they leave evry1 stunned
even indian govt didnt have words.

.
Most of the Pk Government websirtes are very rudimentary and hacking them is no biggy.

SAying that, most Pakistani Government Institutions are not heavily relying on computers and internet at the monet and work is still being done the old fashioned way.

NADRA may be an institution which does rely almost completely on computers, but theirs is a very secure system.

For example try to visit Pakistan met office webiste via google and see what happens
PAKISTAN METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT

it is indian govt who always complain about cyber attacks from china and pak.
unlike this case where the sites hacked r not 'very' important, indian major military sites have been hacked.
just recently their was a complaint about chinese nd pak hackers about 3 weeks ago.

.
as if some secret documents are on these websites. All they manage to do is get some poor web masters job in jeapordy, nothing against Pakistan's national security.

.
:P atleast now these Govt websites will be updated after reconstruction by our authorities

KARACHI: The government started securing the attacked websites on Tuesday, shortly after a group of hackers calling themselves the ‘Indian Cyber Army’ gained root access to a main server hosting important Pakistani government websites.

In an email sent to media outlets earlier, the hackers’ group claimed to have gained root access to the server hosting the websites.

Meanwhile, a report said the government’s experts claimed the cyber attack had been successfully thwarted.

The group managed to hack at least 36 out of the 40 websites which are reportedly being hosted on the hacked server.

The hackers had inserted a page on the websites declaring that they had successfully rooted the server. The websites had not been entirely defaced.

The hacking attempt appears to be associated with the Mumbai attacks.

Details pertaining to the group behind the attack are not clear. Dawn.com is investigating the matter.
