4.5 lakh Indians working illegally in Bangladesh

Fair dinkum.. But i reckon there must be a considerable number though
Maybe or maybe not. At the end it just shows how careless and incompetent bd government is. A simple database would helped but they dont even have that.

.
Yes but that dont mean its believable. Bd dont have any formal documentation its all speculation. No tax return...no proof of remittance flow...dw might be foreign but reporters are based on Bangladesh. You need to have statistical data to prove any of this. And think about it 100 indian managers in each factory? Also out of 4000 most are not even that big to hire this many management ppl.

Article said 1 lakh Indian works in garment industry at various position not just top but also in many junior positions. So it is very much possible. If Garment industry is employing 5 million people these Indians are occupying 2% of it.

.
Either Bangladesh government show hard proof and money trial of remittance or just stop bitching.

There might be few hundred indians or sri Lankan ppl work in bd but 4.5 lakh in 4000 garments factories??? So there are over 100 indian managers in each factory? Ya sound real.

no wonder ppl in this forum joke around any thing that come from bd media. No proof no verification no documentation. Just lame claims and more bla bla.

4000 garments factories are in Dhaka and environs ONLY.

The whole number in all of Bangladesh (and SEZ's) are higher still.

Indians not only work in garments, but in a lot of other companies. Buying houses, media, entertainment industry is full of Indian folks living in Bangladesh illegally. You haven't been to Bangladesh lately, have you?

But like you said, it is not their fault.

We don't enforce our rules, we don't check up on these people, they will keep flouting the rules. It's human nature.

no i havent been there. I visited for one week in 2019 after almost 10 years. Before that i was in dhaka in 2009.

i think its bd goverment fault. Without proper data we dont know who is working...how many working...and what they are doing...meaning we dont even know what are the skill shortages? if we knew we could train local people but goverment and our industry have no clue.

Creating data base is not VERY hard job. Goverment can easily do it in a month. But incompetent hasina and gang good for nothing wont even do that.

why cant BAL just create database? instead of all this speculation? Look at our own fault before blaming others.

We all know what this is.

Is'nt DW (Deutsche Welle) based in Germany ?

They are just quoting people/groups. An aggregator of complaints/speculation/estimation if you will.

Heck there are conflicting numbers running in the very article to begin with....title says 450,000 illegal indian workers specifically...yet a quote (from another group) in article posits 250,000 total foreign workers and 90,000 are legal so thats a grand total of 160k illegal workers (from all countries).

So which is it?

It is just another haphazard (agenda over facts) driven reactionary spiel.

Cant belive DW publish report like this. Expect better quality from them.

Strong dhokeybaaji and BS will win the contest every time. :-)

How about shooting them like the vermin they are when they are crossing the border?

Will Rajnath Singh come begging then?

Our BSF has also shot Indian smugglers at our borders and killed. No one raised a hue and cue at our states. Illegal smuggling is a dangerous job. Unlike you folks who even shamelessly make kids to pole vault. Shameless fellas.

I have seen that if the BD employers take the initiative to maintain the paperwork for the expats in their organization, the records are maintained. But the processes were paper-based, cumbersome and there were red tapes everywhere. Very likely to deter even the most compliant of the organizations.

So, if the employer does not take any steps to maintain proper paperwork to avoid the hassle, nothing is done by the Government to follow up. So, the expat employees become illegal.

I heard they have digitalized the work permit application process now, which is good. But they need to start monitoring to ensure the system is effective.

Lets wait and see if this "digital" work permit thing is working or not. To be honest i dont trust our government.

I keep hearing about this elusive hundreds of thousands of indian managers for last five years yet no actual prove. Our media needs better investigative reporting instead of "he says" "she says" type of lazy reports.

Still the number has to be quite considerable.. I know for a fact that when they started the RMG industry in the early 90's.. Lankan industrialists were pioneers in setting up factories there, Having the experience for two decades before that in the island but because of the civil war being at the height of it's intensity they were looking elsewhere for investments, Dhaka gave them an ideal opportunity with incentives and cheap labour

Check Brandix, MAS and Hirdaramani.. Just a few of Lankan conglomerates that jump started the Bangladesh apparel industry

Does Sri Lanka maintain a govt estimate on its end where its workers/expats are located?

How many times does this "information" get posted and how many times does it need to be debunked. The Bangladesh economy just does not have the size to absorb 5 lac illegals.

At some places they call them illegal Biharis. Are those really illegal or are they those that were not accepted by Pakistan post the 1971. Those may be illegal but have nothing to do with India.

Did a little bit of online research on this, Apparently anyone leaving for foreign employment need to register with the foreign employment bureau.. How far this is eligible for top level management i'm not sure though

Your post demonstrates you may not have full grasp of actual situation inside Bangladesh (Biharis and Refugees, today and in 1947).

Please ask around and/or educate yourself. You will get your info.
