Sri Lanka Navy intercepted two trawlers with 37 Chinese fishermen onboard who were poaching in Sri Lankan waters last night.

Two Sri Lankans were also apprehended along with the Chinese nationals, Navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.

Chinese fishermen can only engage in poaching 200 nautical miles off Sri Lanka’s coast however the arrested fishermen were poaching just 10-15 nautical miles east from Batticaloa.

The arrested Chinese fishermen will be handed over to Trincomalee harbor police, the spokesman said.

Is it fishing trawler or some kind of oceanographic vessel in disguise. These days Chinese are becoming more like pirates poaching everything they see.

and actualy nothing will happen.
I am very sure those fisherman will be released very soon.

exactly. a sri lanka firm bought those two old fishing boats from china. that is why both boats painted with chinese character.

I am sure this will not happen.

Nevertheless our government should advice our fishermen to abide to international laws and respect other countries' EEZ. And also should further fine those violators that are caught. There is no excuses for these to happen and can give only themselves and the country bad reputations.

The sri lankans consider all the INDIAN OCEAN as theirs. No wonder
Show off the chinese flag:china: next time, maybe they wont dare to arrest. We'll be unleashing the surreal army in such a case, of need here :)

They should be arrested for entering other's water w/out permission, and SK's done it right for arresting them. It would be silly to think that China is SK's big brother, thus SK shouldn't take any actions when China's done something wrong against them. At least that's not how China want to be treated, because those aren't real respects.

But the same thing couldn't be said for US's small brothers, where a lot of arse kissing happens daily.

Due to the huge demand in the market and the serious pollution issue around Chinese coastal, more analogous news will happen in the future.
