Sri Lanka Navy intercepted two trawlers with 37 Chinese fishermen onboard who were poaching in Sri Lankan waters last night.
Two Sri Lankans were also apprehended along with the Chinese nationals, Navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.
Chinese fishermen can only engage in poaching 200 nautical miles off Sri Lankas coast however the arrested fishermen were poaching just 10-15 nautical miles east from Batticaloa.
The arrested Chinese fishermen will be handed over to Trincomalee harbor police, the spokesman said.
