Major headway has been achieved in liquefied natural gas import and the country will get three hundred and twenty-five million cubic feet per day of LNG from the first of next month.

This was disclosed at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad today.

The quantity will gradually reach 400 MMCFD by the end of the year. The LNG will be used in power sector to replace expensive fuel.

Secretary Finance Dr Waqar Masood gave an update on the implementation status of various budgetary initiatives.

The Minister issued directive for a detailed presentation on the 2015-16 budget framework as part of preparations for the new budget.

Will this LNG only for Karachi?

Consider, how many petrol based private generators and caterpillars be replaced by the electricity generated by LNG based Powerplants currently using diesel fuel.

. . .
Two terminals are being finished or may be complete in Karachi port. Ships with LNG will be off loaded in these terminals and LNG (Liquefied natural gas) will be again gasified again and delivered to the national gas pipe lines for delivery all over the country. Third terminal will be build till October and LNG will be supplied as its to CNG sector by fuel dumpers and not through gas pipe line to avoid theft by them.
General formula for LNG purchase is set between Qatar and Pakistan for 15% lesser price than crude oil in intentional prices. Which is the most acceptable terms all over the world
There will be no gas shortages unless we are out of stock some time like fuel in the country.
As far as corrupton is concern it starts afterwards when ship arrives here and quota's are distributed to favourites

.
big saving actually
Good news, now if only they understand that we need dams also, and quickly.
dams are expensive and can't be made fast enough.

LNG plants are cheap but fuel is expensive. So for a country like Pakistan it is best.

Though ignoring electricity shortages, people will be VERY happy as gas load shedding fades away. This LNG import can be biggest achievement of the country for 2015 if it works as proposed. But not sure why gov't is providing this facility, considering elections are 3 years away. In political world, they should have waited till mid 2016 to remove gas load shedding.

People forget what good government does in early and mid years, which is why all good things happens towards the end of term so people can vote them. Perhaps they're counting on reducing electricity load shedding for election win.

But, sounds like they're doing it in preparation for winning the local body elections.

LNG will provide both cheaper electricity and CNG for domestic and industrial use. Both which are politically needed for the government of Nawaz to survive.
But the ridiculous metros have to stop there is a problem currently paying 50 billion rupees to complete the dam in Jhelum and yet stupid bus routes can be made. It is what is needed for the country and not votes which leaders should look for. I am sick of the arguments on the otherside

Good government you want to start on good governance?? What he is doing is stopping the fall of his government because another summer like last time with 18 hours of no electricity will lead to no more Nawaz or PML-N government. Already they are very weak

dams are expensive and can't be made fast enough.
And because of the misplaced priorities there will be water shortages but ample buses and roads. It is a policy very few will understand.

Trust me, people will forget the dozens of dead people in 2014 at the hands of gov't if Nawaz gov't provides lesser load shedding of electricity and eliminate gas load shedding.

As much you hate it, he's going to win next election if above is accomplished. The gas load shedding elimination is likely to get better gov't ratings in order to win local body elections.

Finally, this is how most gov't work across the world. Good stuff comes in the end, bad stuff at start. This is how elections are won. Politcians are there to win elections, not improve country. The politician in turn hire the other people who work tirelessly on improving economy. For example, people working under finance ministry are improving Pakistan, not Ishaq dar.

and we need buses just as much as electricity. Cities badly need transit systems.

Which dam is being built in Jehlum? If you're referring to NJ then that's a run on the river project.

I agree, end of the loadshedding by 2018 means an extension of N's reign to 2023. But the problem of circular debt won't go away because even the current hydro projects will be quite expensive. For example, the electricity from NJ would now cost 16 rupees per unit as a result of increased costs. So either this relatively expensive electricity be only supplied to industry or the areas with collection rate higher than 95% Otherwise this will end up in nothing other than increased circular debt. Tackling the circular debt on sustainable basis would mean sustained production of electricity by both private as well as public sector.

And because of the misplaced priorities there will be water shortages but ample buses and roads. It is a policy very few will understand.
Infrastructure has always been and will always be the key to development and efficiency. Had there been a RBT or MRT in Karachi, the pick up in private vehicles wouldn't've been that rapid which has now grown to such size in just 5-6 years that current infrastructure in now under pressure.Just consider the saving in the case of increased infrastructure life, time saving, cost savings and above all resource savings from this kind of project. Similar is the case for Lahore. However, I do agree that its not necessary to build metro in every city. For example start with top 10.
