+30 terrorists killed in Mali by French Barkhane force

On Thursday, May 14, a REAPER drone engaged in the region is redirected to monitor a displacement of terrorists. It repeatedly detected signs of a large group of armed fighters on motorbikes and on board pickups.

The Joint Theater Command Post (PCIAT) of N’Djamena orders two MIRAGE 2000Ds to take off from the projected Niamey Air Base (BAP) to strike this regrouping. In parallel, a patrol of 3 TIGER combat helicopters also takes off from Gao base to complete the strike, given the scale of the operation that is looming.

Very quickly, thanks to the support of the REAPER drone which maintained its surveillance activity in the area, the MIRAGE 2000D struck and neutralized many terrorists. The TIGRE helicopters then carried out several offensive overflights over the area, allowing the neutralization of other terrorists and the destruction of their motorcycles. For its part, the REAPER drone also performs a strike.

Subsequently, an SGTD in sector control operation several tens of kilometers from the strike area, was dispatched to the scene of the combat in order to complete the cordon and search. The raking of the wooded area in which the enemy had disseminated carried out by the SGTD reveals that this operation made it possible to neutralize more than thirty terrorists, to destroy more than forty motorcycles, a pickup, more than 30 machine-guns AK47, 1 RPG-7 rocket launcher, a 12.7mm heavy machine gun and numerous military resources.

This heavy toll inflicted on terror groups comes on top of other recent successes of the force. These successes were made possible thanks to the complementarity of the different components involved, whose respective actions combine responsiveness, mobility and firepower. They also demonstrate Barkhane’s ability to collect and analyze intelligence for the direct benefit of coordinated fire action, in order to greatly diminish the capabilities of armed terrorist groups.

More than ever, the Barkhane force is imposing constant pressure and a sustained rhythm of operations on armed terrorist groups in the Sahel, more particularly in the area of the three borders. (Mali,Burkina Faso and Niger)

I made the same thought.

Strikes were conducted in a terror hideout in a wooden area. The first assessments on the number of "neutralized" terrorists were based on the number of found AK-47,"more than 30". Given the intense airstrikes,the death toll might be much higher than first assessed.

BTW,these actions follow the pressure the Barkhane force is maintaining on terror in the Malian Liptako/Gourma in the three borders area of Mali,Niger and Burkina Faso.

Encounters are becoming more and more frequent over the recent months/weeks between terror groups and French forces. More recently on the 9th and 12th of May in the Malian Gourma and the 17th of May in the Malian Liptako in which several dozens of terrorists were neutralized in each incidents.

Sadly,the French Barkhane force lost two soldiers over the recent weeks in the Sahel,both from the 1st foreign cavalry regiment of the French foreign legion.

French commandos continue to harass armed terrorists groups in the Malian Gourma in the three border areas of Niger,Mali and Burkina Faso.

French parachute commandos conducted few days ago a night infiltration against armed terrorist elements in the Gourma,thus surprising them,mini drones were used to to detect and facilitate the neutralization of the enemies. The commandos were later reinforced by Tiger attack helicopters and mountain commandos.

As always,the French armed forces staff still refuses to give an accurate assessment on the death toll suffered by terror armed groups,but noted more than two dozens motorcycles,large quantities of armaments,ammos,communication and other military equipments were destroyed. The commandos directly went to the enemy in its shelter. During the operation,the commandos traveled nearly 800km.

Seems they are looking forward to the times in the future as the situation seems to be changing for the whole world and they think it's better to clear the ground first in order to grip hard the region gradually.
