Hundreds of Afghan insurgents attack Upper Dir check post

10 October, 2011

UPPER DIR: Hundreds of insurgents from Afghanistan's side entered the Barawal area of Upper Dir and attacked the Kakar checkpost on Sunday.

During the assault, around 15 insurgents were killed and a soldier also lost his life. Official sources said that a group of armed men attacked the Kakar checkpost situated in the Barawal area of Upper Dir with automatic weapons, killing one soldier and injuring two others. According to them, security forces retaliated immediately and at least 15 insurgents were killed in the ensuing battle.

The injured security personnel were shifted to a hospital for treatment and are stated to be in a stable condition. Fresh contingents of security forces were sent to the area, which forced the insurgents to retreat back over the border into Afghanistan. Barawal locals said that the insurgents were armed with the latest weapons and that they would be dealt with sternly if they tried to launch an attack inside Pakistan's territory again. They also said that insurgents not only attacked security forces, but also targeted civilians.

In June, insurgents launched a cross-border attack that killed at least 28 security forces personnel and 35 civilians in Nusrat Darra area of Barawal while last month, insurgents attacked six checkposts in Chitral which resulted in the death of 25 security personnel and 20 militants. Pakistan has repeatedly asked NATO forces and the Afghanistan government to stop cross-border incursions which are causing a strain in relations between the neighboring countries.

CHITRAL: Pakistani soldiers killed 30 Afghan militants who had crossed the border to attack the army, military officials said on Monday.
The raid on Sunday night by a group of more than 200 Afghans could further damage an already difficult relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan, who often accuse each other of failing to halt cross-border operations by militants.
One Pakistani soldier was killed and four were wounded in the latest frontier incident, which lasted close to an hour, officials said. There was no independent confirmation of the number of militants killed.
“The attack happened in the Barawal area of Upper Dir. Pakistani forces retaliated and the intruders slipped back,” said one of the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Tension between the countries has been high since Afghan officials accused the Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI) of masterminding the September 20 assassination of Kabul’s chief peace negotiator with the Taliban. Pakistan strongly denied the allegations.
Pakistan has repeatedly blamed Afghanistan for giving safe haven to militants on its side of the border, leaving Pakistan vulnerable to counter-attack when it chases them out of its own tribal areas in the northwest.
Afghan provincial officials say Pakistan’s military fired hundreds of rockets between September 21 and September 25 in eastern Kunar and Nuristan provinces, which share a long border with the tribal areas inside Pakistan.
Although, the shelling did not cause major casualties, it followed more than a month of bombardments by Pakistan’s military in June and July that Afghanistan said killed at least 42 people.
A Pakistan military official said the army only engaged militants who crossed the border to stage attacks.

When attack happened deep inside Afghanistan in the capital Kabul, the USA it's whole media and Army bluntly put blame on Pakistan without any evidences. But here we have clear cut cross border terrorism from the soil of Afghanistan and there is no response from the spoke persons and military generals.

This is the real reason why world do not understand our position because we SHUT THE FVCK UP EACH AND EVERY TIME.

Pakistan army kills 30 Afghan militants after border raid

(Reuters) - Pakistani soldiers killed 30 Afghan militants who had crossed the border to attack the army, Pakistani military officials said Monday.

The raid Sunday night by a group of more than 200 Afghans could further damage an already difficult relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan, which often accuse each other of failing to halt cross-border operations by militants.

One Pakistani soldier was killed and four were wounded in the latest frontier incident, which lasted close to an hour, the Pakistani officials said. There was no independent confirmation of the number of militants killed.

"The attack happened in the Barawal area of Upper Dir. Pakistani forces retaliated and the intruders slipped back," said one of the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Barawal is around 200 km (124 miles) northwest of the capital Islamabad.

Tension between the countries has been high since Afghan officials accused Pakistan's main intelligence agency of masterminding the September 20 assassination of Kabul's chief peace negotiator with the Taliban. Pakistan strongly denied the allegations.

Pakistan has repeatedly blamed Afghanistan for giving safe haven to militants on its side of the border, leaving Pakistan vulnerable to counter-attack when it chases them out of its own ethnic Pashtun tribal areas in the northwest.

The border area is home to several of the world's most dangerous militant groups, who train there and organize attacks on U.S.-led NATO forces and the Afghan army in Afghanistan, and government forces in Pakistan.

Afghan provincial officials say Pakistan's military fired hundreds of rockets between September 21 and September 25 in eastern Kunar and Nuristan provinces, which share a long border with lawless tribal areas inside Pakistan.

Although, the shelling did not cause major casualties, it followed more than a month of bombardments by Pakistan's military in June and July that Afghanistan said killed at least 42 people.

A Pakistan military official said the army only engaged militants who crossed the border to stage attacks.
