The Indian Air Force’s solitary Rafale squadron will add more muscle with the arrival of at least three more fighter jets in January, a shot in the arm for the IAF that is grappling with a shortage of combat planes, people familiar with developments said on Saturday on the condition of anonymity.

This batch of Rafale fighters will be the third set of deliveries of the French-origin aircraft to the air force, which has ordered a total of 36 warplanes (equivalent of two squadrons) at a cost of Rs 59,000 crore.
“At least three Rafale jets will arrive in India next month. The dates are still being worked out. The planes will be flown to Jamnagar from France without a stopover on the way. Refuelling support will be provided by Indian and French tankers,” the people said.
The jets were ordered from France in September 2016 under a government-to-government deal. The delivery of the three jets in January will take the number of Rafales in the IAF’s inventory to 11.

The second batch of the IAF’s three Rafale fighter jets had reached the Jamnagar airbase in Gujarat from France in early November before they flew to their homebase in Ambala. The first batch of five Rafale jets of the 36 ordered by the IAF reached the Ambala airbase on July 29 after a stopover at the Al Dhafra airbase near Abu Dhabi, although a formal induction ceremony took place later on September 10.

The arrival of more fighters will further boost the IAF’s capability to rapidly deploy the advanced jets in the Ladakh theatre amid military tensions with China, as previously reported by Hindustan Times.

The IAF has been operating the fighter jets - equipped with advanced weapons and sensors - in the Ladakh theatre where the military is on high alert to deal with any provocation by China amid a lingering border dispute.
The IAF will induct three to four jets every two months, with all the 36 planes likely to join its combat fleet by the year-end. The second Rafale squadron will be based at Hasimara in West Bengal to strengthen the IAF’s capabilities in the eastern sector.

The Rafale fighters are the first imported jets to join the IAF in 23 years after the Russian Sukhoi-30 jets entered service in June 1997.

The twin-engine Rafale jets are capable of carrying out a variety of missions – ground and sea attack, air defence and air superiority, reconnaissance and nuclear strike deterrence. The fighters can carry almost 10 tonnes of weapons. India-specific enhancements on the Rafales include cold engine start capability to operate from high-altitude bases, radar warning receivers, flight data recorders with storage for 10 hours of data, infrared search and track systems, jammers and towed decoys to ward off incoming missiles.

114 Rafale deal should be signed, or is IAF waiting for Rafale F4?
What can Rafael do that 272 su30mki can't? Hiding IAFs incompetence behind a new aircraft and feeling good giving 9 billion dollars to French feels good ? Instead IAF should have gone for datalinks secure communications next gen BVR and next gen radar for su30mki fleet and made it a formidable aircraft but then again it's good for Pakistan if IAF plans to purchase 112 Rafael and go bankrupt by giving French 20 billion dollars..... in my opinion F15 or F18 are much better than Rafael but IAF keeps on making stupid decisions which is good for us ultimately

Hoping to see modi putting his much awaited Rafale to test.
Just please cross in to Pakistan air space and dare to stay put for 5 minutes and please tell your girls, no shouts like last time ABHI ABHI ABHI....... otherwise we may not get release of shooting at Rafale from Imran Khan.

India is in a weak position. A two-front-war is looming upon India, it has lost 1200 square kilometres to an unsettled stand-off which is still going on, with the worsening condition on China border, Kashmir and Punjab, how long can Indian leaders face the heat of incompetency upon themselves. Eventually, they need a diversion. Eventually, they need to blame Pakistan for their incompetencies. Eventually, they have to start a war to keep power to make Indians clap for them so they could keep their chairs.

With this situation, India doesn't have breathable air to wait unless Modi is offered a few extra bribes and is made to wait. In that case, the entire India will wait.

Lol 20 Billion dollars is not even 1% of our GDP but 8% of your GDP.
And Rafales are necessary, and I got to know your IQ when you said what Rafale can do that Su-30 can’t... Su-30MKI is a heavy weight aircraft and requirement is of a Medium Category Fighter which is Rafale. Our squadron strength is low and needs fighters. Plus we have purchased BNET from Rafael of Israel for secure data link who’s components are being made in India in a Joint Venture and Super Sukhoi upgrade work is in progress.

Rafale is not for fighting Pakistan, it is for worship rituals.

who needs weapons to use against Pakistan when there are Pakistanis like you and platforms like this which can be purchased dirt cheap?

You know nothing! People were talking about older Mig 21 and unsecure connection. Su 30 Mki is having secure communication.

PAF was flying 24 aircrafts against a few 6 IAF aircrafts during a very small incident and incidents of few mins.

F 16 with AA missile range 110 vs Su 30 mki with AA missile 80 KM. Missile only make the difference but still unable to shoot down.

Since PAF is having one decent fighter (F16 with AA 110 KM), SU 30 mki with new AA missile 110 Km is more then enough to deal.

Rafale is will just advantage but importantly it will act to balance with CHina for such incidents because china is having much better aircrafts with AA missiles.

SU 30 MKI has latest R77 varient which goes toe to toe with Aim-120C5 which PAF has ...
Rafale is needed for maintaining technological edge over PAF and as a detterent against PLAAF...

Not 112 Rafales but couple of Squadron more might be expected as same bases can hold more Rafales
