26 injured in Muharram clashes in Uttar Pradesh : North, News - India Today

Violence between two Muslim sects left more than 26 people injured in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district on Saturday, police said.

The clashes, officials informed, broke out between two groups at Abdulahpur village over the issue of beating of drums.

"One side asked the other not to do so but the others did not relent, leading to violence," Meerut Senior Superintendent of police (SSP) K. Satyanarayan said.

Since the 'Majlis', a religious congregation of Shias was underway, a group took umbrage to the beating of the drums and soon clashes erupted between the two sides.

Stones were pelted from both sides and firing was also reported. More than two dozen people have been admitted to nearby medical facilities. Some were discharged after first aid.

Additional police force has been deployed in the area to contain any escalation of the clashes.

No other such incident has been reported from any other part of the state, public relations officer (PRO) at the DGP headquarters Rakesh Singh said, adding that adequate arrangements have been ensured for peaceful passage of Moharram processions.

Being a citizen of UP i can come to the conclusion that UP is a fucked up state mainly the southern part .
Most of the population is either unemployed or roams around with chewimg tobacco in the mouth .
U.P. is different from the rest of India mainly due to corruption from the last 40 years and overpopulation .
Hence these things are bound to happen for the time being but fortunately the government is atleast woken up now and working for the betterment of common man .

Well as i said after partition happened, people from both Pakistan and India exchanged good and bad people. We lost very educated Hindus and what we got were very bad muslims. Among those muslims, were people from U.P who had a history of sunni - shia conflicts.
