National Sovereignty and Children's Day

National Sovereignty and Children's Day (Turkish: Ulusal Egemenlik ve Çocuk Bayramı) is one of the public holidays in Turkey.

This national day, April 23rd Children's Day, in Turkey is a unique event. The founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, presented April 23rd to all the world's children to emphasize that they are successor of the future. During the War of Independence, Grand National Assembly met in Ankara and laid down the foundations of a new, independent, secular and modern republic from the ashes of the Ottoman Empire. Following the defeat of the Allied invasion forces on September 9th, 1922 and the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne on July 24th, 1923, Ataturk started his task of establishing the institutions of the new state. Over the next eight years, Ataturk and his followers adopted sweeping reforms to create a modern Turkey, divorced from her Ottoman past. In unprecedented moves, he dedicated the sovereignty day to the children and entrusted in the hands of the youth the protection of this sovereignty and independence.

"Egemenlik kayıtsız şartsız milletindir." or "Hakimiyet bilâ kayd u şart milletindir."

"Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the people."

-Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

nothing wrong with celebrating childrens day. but is that is in Syria? I assume it is since it sais olive branch.

this is shameful and disgraceful behaviour by the turks. celebrate your events on your own lands. but to do it in other peoples land, with Turkish flags and Turkish troops all over the place?

this looks like a blatant land grab/annexation. unfortunately, it seems the turks haven't realized the 18th century is over and they cant grab land for keeps anymore.

Might makes right. Who has might, takes land.

very true. the law of the jungle is very much back.

the Zionists show this concept in Palestine with unconditional American backing. Russians showed it in crimea with an apocalyptic nuclear arsenal backing them up.

turkey on the other hand doesn't have as much backing it up. and it has a serious Kurdish problem to deal with. might makes right in this instance will become a 2 way street. and those Turkish troops might pay dearly if Erdogan breaks cooperation with iran and Russia in Syria. and becomes a direct threat to the Syrian government again.

Regardless though. really poor behaviour by the turks. land grabbing neighbours has no place in todays world anymore. at least the Russians had strong historical and blood claims to crimea.

turks are annexing arab/Kurdish populated land.

Turkey is Sunni Muslim country. These Syrians are Sunni Muslims. They see Turkey as their guardian angel. So what? They live in the north, not important place. For Russia, the major cities, Homs, Aleppo, Damascus, Deir es Zor, Hama, the coast are far more important than that place.

Those who don't like Assad all go there, makes the core place of Syria more stable and more pro Assad. Win win for both.

Syria border was created by the white man. It never made sense in the first place.

Easiest territory expansion yet, except the best way to hold is to make sure all those children learn turkish asap and get with the turkish system. Any attempt to leave it as a colony will backfire.

For these people who are not so well educated religion is the most important thing. Language not that important.

It is but language is the eventual unity. It will solidify the hold and if the children who grow up here are taught jn that system they will identify as turks eventually.

Language not that important. People can easily learn another language. It is religion that matters the most. For example, I'm atheist, and no one can make me change that, ever.

No
You’re rebellious(your usage of words betrays it plainly)- be it atheism or homosexuality or simply hating the color blue, you identify your rebellion or uniqueness with beliefs and hence that is important to you.

That is your core belief but it doesn’t have to be for the next person. To someone else it could be the color of your skin.Maslow’s pyramid applies to many situations and that is how humans identify and acsend in their bonds.

Atheism is not rebellious in the least bit. It is a world view.
Its not about atheism, rather your need to highlight it and then compliment it. It shows a strong need to repeat and identify it as a distinction and emotional attachment rather than what would be the norm for you in your social scenario.

Children need shelters, food and clean water not Turkish flag. The only way they could use the flag with is to be a toilet paper since there is a shortage of water in conflict areas.

Arab Troll.

Don’t worry they have handed out the Saudi, UAE, Egypt flags to use as toilet paper.

Yes turkey builds schools, brings water and a better life for these kids. Unlike the Arab and Kurdish regime they use to live under, especially unlike the Arab coalition who bombs weddings, funerals and homes in Yemen.
