NEW DELHI: 23,600 Bangladeshi nationals have been deported in the last three years while over 83,400 people from the country, claiming to be refugees, are living in India.

Replying to a question in Lok Sabha, minister of state for external affairs Preneet Kaur said a total of 23,653 Bangladeshi citizens have been deported from 2009 to 2011.

Giving year-wise break up, she said a maximum of 10,602 Bangladeshi nationals were deported in 2009 while the numbers for 2010 and 2011 were 6,290 and 6,761 respectively.

She said that as on December 31, 2011, a total of 67,945 nationals from over 40 countries were found to be overstaying in India who include 13,744 from Afghanistan and 8,037 from Pakistan.

Kaur said a total of 2,168 nationals from the US, 2038 from Iraq and 1,094 people from the UK were also found to be overstaying in India.

Answering a separate question, she said a total of 83,484 Bangladesh nationals have been living in India, claiming to be refugees.

Asked whether these people were given Adhaar numbers, Kaur did not give a direct reply but said Unique Identification Authority of India has been mandated to generate and issue a 12 digit unique identification number to all residents of India.

"Adhaar is not a citizen identity card. It does not confer citizenship nor does it, by itself, confer right of citizenship," she said.

KICK THEM ALL OUT

. .
just 23K? There are millions of them wrecking havoc and not letting the real people of that land live in peace...Kill all of them out..and enforce metal piercing bullets at border and a shoot at sight order should be passed on bangladeshi pole vaulters!!

. . .
Correct me if I am wrong, some years ago when illegal Bangladeshis were being transported back to the border, Communists in Bengal stopped the train and released them.

. .
only 23,600 :what:
what about rest of them?
i am not against Bangladeshi, i know no one want to leave our home but it's wrong to live illegally in other home and enjoy the facility of others. India itself facing lot of problem with his large population and poverty. our resources is not sufficient to fulfill our own needs. so please leave my country as soon as possible.

.
It may not be even 1 percent of those who infiltrated.

Exactly.

This deportation is just a ceremonial lie so that people's anger gets soothed to some extent. 33 crores - 23 thousand is nothing! Just 0.72%!!

The UPA just wants to ensure that people are soothed enough to forget and their larger votebank is not affected.

Correct me if I am wrong, some years ago when illegal Bangladeshis were being transported back to the border, Communists in Bengal stopped the train and released them.

Yeah. You're right. CPI(M) was the biggest supporter of these fundos as it was their direct votebank in "secular" politics.

They are offered vote IDs upon crossing the border! WTF!?

It's not just about resources my good friend.

In a way we are also responsible for the increase in pole vaulters. As BDs are paid some times half the wage of local workers, Indian industrialists, construction firms and even Indian households employ them. When the employing stops, the pole vaulting will also stop.

In my district more than 35% of the total population are bangladeshi..

They are there bcs the rest gives incentives to them to stay. You may not doing it directly, but is also part of the process.

Communism is gone from West Bengal for good....

BUT regarding 'votebank politics', all 'left wing', 'right wing' parties are same....
Just see what CONGRESS is doing.........
