US-based Rice Aircraft Services and Canada-based Eagle Copters have won a competition to provide 21 refurbished UH-1 Huey combat utility helicopters to the Philippine Air Force.The contract was awarded on 22 December 2013, said Bob Rice, the president of Rice Aircraft.The aircraft will be used "for search and rescue and other missions" by the Philippine Air Force, Rice told IHS Jane's on 6 January. The company is incorporating radios onto the aircraft but will not weaponise them, he added.Rice Aircraft is bidding on additional UH-1 refurbishment deals, but Rice declined to name potential customers.The Philippine project is valued at USD30 million, according to a notice issued on the Philippine Department of National Defense's (DND's) website when the bidding first opened in August 2013.
