It's said China official pics about 057 class frigate, 2014 new frigate design finish.
Europe style stealth warship install small AESA radar, 32x VLS and HQ-10 anti-aircraft missiles, 2x type730( or type1130 ) CIWS. If everything is fine, 2014 China might build 1st group of 057 class frigates.

If we built 052D DDG, why we plan to build bigger 055 DDG ? 054A FFG old, China Navy need new powerful frigate. I said that 057 design pics (first post) from official news, the pic in 2nd post is CG it maybe inaccuracy.

The 52D is more of a prelude to the Type 55(or another name) heavier DDG, while the Type 57 is the final evolution of the Frigate in China. It will serve more of an anti sub role than anti air, and is also a testbed for advance technologies to be later used.

I think it would be 3500 Tons. Might be the F-22P Block-IIs from PN. But it better to have 2VLS 32-Cell launchers for Anit Air and Anti Ship Missiles.

Both 055 and 057 are designed for different roles within a carrier battlegroup. 055 is a large air defence destroyer, while 057 is an anti-submarine frigate. You won't see expensive AESA on the 057, as its function is not to provide cover against air. Actually, POP3 and slayerhuahua both stated that 057 will look similar to 054B.

Will it start soon, such as when the 20th and final 054A is launched?.......or a little later?.............and i presume it will be built at HP and HD shipyards!

Both 055 and 057 may start as early as next year or no later than 2017.

Don't forget the pair of 30mm CIWS and the VLS may contain SAMs that are anti-ship missile capable.
