Two Turkish soldiers have been killed and three others wounded in clashes between security forces and the terrorists of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Turkey's southeastern province of Sirnak.
The Thursday morning clashes erupted near a military base bordering northern Iraq.
Last month, Turkish police ordered counterterrorism units across the country to tighten security measures against the PKK attacks targeted primarily at security forces and police stations. Security has also been tightened in public places such as subway stations and shopping centers.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community, including Turkey, Iran, European Union member states, and the United States.
Over 45,000 people have lost their lives since the PKK launched its armed campaign against Ankara in Turkey's Kurdish majority southeast in 1984.
