BUDAPEST—The Hungarian army said on Wednesday it would ground and review its fleet of Jas-39 Gripen fighter jets, made by Swedish manufacturer Saab, after a second crash-landing within a month.

The announcement came after a Hungarian pilot was forced to eject himself from a jet near the town of Kecskemet, in central Hungary.

Saab said it would "fully support" the investigation.

"We never speculate on the reasons before a very careful analysis," a spokesman for the company told AFP.

"We have very rigorous security systems in place. The equipment has been operating for many years around the world and is a very proven and stable platform."

The accident happened when the plane's wheels failed during a training mission, said Lieutenant General Zoltan Orosz, deputy chairman of the joint chiefs of staff.

The experienced pilot tried to land the Gripen on its belly before ejecting himself when the jet turned sideways and became uncontrollable.

The pilot is in a stable condition in the Kecskemet hospital, Lt Gen Orosz added.

Hungary has a fleet of 14 Jas-39 Gripen fighters.

An investigation is already underway into another incident involving the aircraft.

On May 19, a two-man Hungarian crew had to eject before their jet crashed during a military exercise at Caslav army base in eastern Czech Republic.

The Hungarian defense ministry said the two cases were not related.

But just to prove that world class manufacturing techniques of SAAB are not that good.
Even f-22 crashed 5 times Same is Rafale and Eurofighter
Matter of the fact is 247 Gripen is in Service of Many air-forces around the world
Just Compare its operational Serviceability with any IAF fighters

.
But gripen also had continuosly performing engine for 143000 hrs which is a record. And crashes happens all the time.

Potential of aircraft and reliability are 2 different matter. Russian plane s are highly potent but less reliable. They may crash but they will proved to be a nightmare for enemy in war.

For example?
Vietnam war, Iran Iraq war, Operation desert storm, Invasion of iraq, Serbia.
When did ever Russian planes have proved to be NIGHTMARE against western counterparts?
I am using mobile version of PDF no flags are show here. But i bet you are from india :p

Hi
My sole purpose was that we should not take our own companies as too bad and international brands too good. Yes SAABs manufacturing capability is better than us. But there are others who have more to offer us(excluding dassault) .
SAAB is itself struggling with its NG project. Will it be good to get there help in a project which Will surpass NG in every aspect?

In short
1. If no other company is ready to come on board, get the SAAB to improve our "manufacturing rate and quality" only.

2. Do not get them involved in mk2 project as they are themselves facing a lot of problems in NG. And our mk2 will be more than that.

Cheers
Thanks
Good Evening.
