ISLAMABAD: The energy ministry has announced contracts with 18 new independent power producers (IPPs) including wind power units, for cheaper electricity in the country, ARY News learned Saturday.

According to the details on the development shared by sources, the government team has had successful deals with 18 new IPPs, including Kot Addu Power Company (KAPCO) for 1600 Mega Watt generation, for affordable electricy.

All 18 IPPs have agreed to signing government contracts out of which 17 are wind power units.

According to the contract, which is set to be signed between the government and these IPPs, slash in tariffs and other concessional terms have been concurred.

After the federal cabinet has consented to these contracts with IPPs, the official signing will take place instant, ARY News was told.

With these new 18 IPPs, the government has convinced about 41 IPPs, out of 47 that it talked to, for concessional terms and economical power supply.

It may be noted that earlier last week, the energy ministry hiked electricity tariffs by Rs1.95 per unit which it claimed is due to a hefty circular debt thanks to previous governments.

We could jack the prices by Rs2.18 per unit but we did not want to “burden the masses” so we only increased 23 per cent in tariff, said the federal minister for energy Omar Ayub in a joint presser today accompanied by the federal planning minister Asad Umer and Prime Minister’s aide on energy Tabish Gauhar.

Ayub said the incumbent government has inherited the circular debt crisis for which it is binding on it to hike the tariffs and translate the impact on the masses. Due to the heavy debts in the e

We need to make use of Nuclear power. The US has only 95 reactors out of 20k powerplants in total but these 95 reactors provide 20% of the energy.

Good move. We have already over capacity problem. Upcoming hydel and nuclear projects r sifficient. Need is of cheaper electricity.

PAKISTAN IS A UNIQUE COUNTRY
if we leverage our hydro tigether with solar/wind we can become 100% renewable

for example tarbela ghazi can produce 6000mw in evening and night while solar energy can produced during the day on top of these lakes..WB fudning a 40mw renewable on tarbela lake but 60sq km can theoretically produce more then 60 GW of solar power(4X our total requirement)

we can also use pump hydro with water pumped back from lower resviour to upper during day with solar(for example between dasu and bhasha or tarbela and ghazi

Before hudel we need solar that as artificial grids starting from small villages..

Fully agreed Pakistan is very unique. A few years back I proposed installing inline hydro turbines on rivers and canals and covering the canals with solar panels, it would have saved expensive land being dedicated to panels the answer was :o: No, what if someone gets electrocuted in canals already 100s die in summer. My answer was genius this is what public swimming pools are made by Governments all over the world, taking a dip in canal is not legal either way.

Of course efficiency and smart solutions tou Pakistan kay kareeb sai bhi nahi guzartay. Baray Baray powerplants and Billions in kickbacks is the way to go. For these in-line/running flow turbines, no additional dedicated infrastructure was required, practically just installing and networking them.

Bro not just inline turbines but also these whirlpool turbines can be used in inner Punjab and norther punjab area where they have these small water lines going out of canals to farmers..

Moreover solar over canals as you have shown can be used but with a lot wider gaps as we need space for emergencies... and those areas which are like isolated from population can be used like you have shown.. like more denser..

There are a numerous different solutions for a range of problems Pakistan is facing but for that all you need is honest bureaucrat, that it. No matter how corrupt, incompetent or compromised the politician are, it will be of zero effect as long as the bureaucracy is honest, competent and efficient. But for us everything and everyone is either corrupt, incompetent or both.
