KANDHAR CITY (WNA): 15 armed Taliban were killed in a clash with the Afghan Local Police (ALP) in Shawali Koot district of Kandahar province overnight, an official said Monday.
A group of Taliban fighters attacked a local police post in Loy Kareez area of the district, triggering a fierce gun battle between the ALP and insurgents at around 2pm, said governor spokesman, Jaweed Faisal.
After few hours of clash, the ALP could defeat the insurgents by killing 15 of them, the spokesman said in a statement.
According to the source, during the face-to-face clash the ALP suffered no life or property losses.
The forces could also seize several small and heavy weapons alongside the dead bodies of the insurgents.
He said the main target of the insurgent was only to show their presence through launching anti-government activities in the district.
