That is good news indeed however what about PPP as they more over 30 seats in the NA.

On a side note how was Sheikh Rashid able to convince MQM to support PTI, considering the rivalry between the two, it looks quite farfetched.

It does look far-fetched but on a Hamid Mir show today some analysts did say so, it won't be any alliance or anything, but just a vote for Imran Khan as opposition leader.

Sheikh Rasheed did say 'Imran Khan ki asooli syasat usay rok rahi hai, agr woh is ko chor day to 2 din main woh opposition leader ban jaye magr asooli syasat nhn chorni'!

Ayaz Sadia and Murtaza Javeed Abbasi will contest for speaker and Deputy speaker from Pmln. Lets see how much votes they can get!!!

PPP take back nomination papers for Speaker and Deputy speaker elections.

MQM delegation met with Nawaz Sharif today, interesting development. If they get along with the government, then the battle for opposition leader will get interesting. PTI and PPP wouls be much more closely matched then.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) nominee Sardar Ayaz Sadiq was elected to the post of Speaker National Assembly on Monday.Sadiq was elected Speaker after he bagged 258 votes in a secret ballot by members of the newly elected National Assembly.Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Shaharyar Afridi received 31 votes while Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) S.A. Iqbal Qadri bagged 23 votes.“Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has secured more votes than the aggregate votes secured by the other candidates,” said outgoing speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza.Earlier after submitting his nomination papers for the post of speaker, Sadiq said if and once elected, he would strive to run the house in an impartial manner.Voting for the post of Deputy Speaker was currently underway through secret ballot. The result will be announced later in the session by the new Speaker after counting of votes. The PML-N has nominated Murtaza Javed Abbasi for the post of deputy speaker. The three main opposition parties — PPP, PTI and MQM — had all fielded their candidates for the posts of National Assembly speaker and deputy speaker against Sadiq and Abbasi of PML-N, the single largest party in the house.Earlier today, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) withdrew its candidates, Nawab Yousuf Talpur and Ghulam Rasool Koreja, at the last minute in support of the PML-N’s speaker and deputy speaker candidates. The MQM had fielded Kishwer Zehra and the PTI had fielded Munazza Hassan for deputy speaker.Keeping in view the party position, elections for the offices of the prime minister, speaker and deputy speaker are merely be a formality since the PML-N has acquired more than a simple majority in the 342-member National Assembly with a number of independents having joined it.

MQM has announced support for PML in elections for Prime Minister post.

So this would mean that MQM wouldn't participate in the elections for oppn leader? If so, then things b/w PTI and PPP are much more even. Sheikh Rasheed, Sherpao, JI and a few others would be supporting PTI, while ANP etc would be rooting for PPP.
@W.11, @hasnain0099, @Tiger Awan...what do you folks think of this alliance? Only limited to voting or can we see some ministries go MQM's way?

we all know who is gonna be PM, who will PTI vote? i think its too going for PMLN

in opposition i think MQM will vote just to keep PTI out, because we know PTI is a snake, can bite any time

MQM also has few interests related to sindh and MQM would make sure that it give PPP something, it gets something in return(local body system)

this time PPP is in real need of MQM

very slim chance MQM will take ministry bribe, MQM has a very bitter experience with PMLN(along with govt alliance of last period), worse than PPP

MQM is trying to get near to N and grab something. But I dont see MQM has any trade-chips left in its pocket (especially after opting out of Sindh Govt). JUI-F still hold the critical card of ability to bring TTP to talk table so they are pushing for a trade. Rest for MQM I think it is only a gesture just like JUI-F has announced that it will vote for PML-N.

They could be a big plus in terms of restoring peace to Karachi...the Ministry for Ports and SHipping might seem lucrative to MQM.
