India had a similar issue with the AW101 for VIP usage. While a lot unsaid has been floated around regarding monetary irregularities and certain two stars making millions off the Leonardo purchase
Something similar happened here apparently but nothing was declared publicly, the establishment did some shuffling around which in essense indicates someone was caught and is being investigatedIndia had a similar issue with the AW101 for VIP usage.
Scarily though, India got to know this after the Italians started investigations into the former boss of AW.
Then IAF ACM Tyagi and his wife were treated to a 5 star hotel stay in Venice(IIRC), Opera Tickets etc. by the AW boss during the Helicopter's trials. Kickbacks were supposedly routed via. his cousins who were also the middlemen.
The deal(INR 3500Cr) was eventually cancelled and the guarantees(amounting to INR 2000Cr) were encashed. The already delivered choppers are gathering dust and the exchequer has lost at least a dozen hundred crores.
Hopefully the Sherdils learn from watching their display...

Check out the Egyptian air force display team that flies K-8s....they have a very dynamic display. Sherdils total display lasts about 7-8 mins...that's how much a solo F-16 normally does...For a perfect 10 show, Sherdils should be a dedicated airshow performance team like other teams. They just do the same old routine since their focus is not dedicated towards coming up with new and improved moves to please airshow crowds. There is a lot of room for improvement but they do manage it well under the circumstances.
Really looking forward to the full strength Saudi Hawk performance today.
I think the Hawk has a superior wing design and a better engine that plays a big part in their performance too.
The MoDP listed the cost of 4 SAR helicopters at $78 m. These might be the AW139s, but if the price shown includes spare parts, training and ground support equipment, then $19.5 m an aircraft might not be too bad. The S-70i costs around $32 m an aircraft while the UH-60M clocks in at $45-55 m depending on configuration. I guess only new-built Bell 412EPs would have been the closest alternatives to the AW139.Something similar happened here apparently but nothing was declared publicly, the establishment did some shuffling around which in essense indicates someone was caught and is being investigated
