◦China on Thursday agreed to extend co-operation in 36 development projects worth $13.2 billion related to industry, water, energy, agriculture, fisheries and communication.

ISLAMABAD (December 03, 2010) : China on Thursday agreed to extend co-operation in 36 development projects worth $13.2 billion related to industry, water, energy, agriculture, fisheries and communication to boost economic activity in flood-hit areas of Pakistan.

China agreed during the 14th session of the Pak-China Joint Committee on Economic, Trade Scientific and Technical Cooperation (JEC) under the co-chairmanships of Finance Minister Dr Hafeez Shaikh and visiting China International Trade Representative from Ministry of Commerce Gao Hucheng. The two sides have also agreed to enhance Pakistani exports to China with the latter providing more tariff relaxation.

In a joint press conference by Hafeez Sheikh and Gao Hunheng, after the JEC session, Sheikh said that the two sides also agreed that Chinese investment will be increased in various sectors of Pak economy including agriculture, electricity, finance, mining and infrastructure.

Hafeez Shaikh lauded the Chinese government for announcing $250 million grant for reconstruction. “The authorities concerned of both countries will meet soon to fix priorities for spending this assistance for the development of flood-hit areas,” he added.Shaikh said that China would send teams to Pakistan, enabling exporters to book orders. “Pakistani exporters will also be facilitated to visit and participate in trade fairs in China to explore markets for their products,” Hafeez maintained.

Gao Hucheng said China responded quickly to the plight of flood victims. Gao Hucheng said although trade between the two countries tilted highly in favour of China, China would encourage balance of trade by taking measures for enhancement of Pakistani exports to China. Meanwhile, according to a statement, the JEC reaffirmed strong support in advancing co-operation between the two countries in trade, economic, scientific and technical sectors as guided by the mandate of the Joint Commission.

The JEC reviewed the ongoing development programmes and appreciated that a large number of mega projects of strategic importance have been completed. Both sides also reiterated that economic co-operation between the two countries was a major contributing factor in bringing the people of Pakistan and China closer. A lot of projects are carried by China. Major ones are,

1) upcoming constructoin of 1000MW plutonium based reactor, it has a potential to produce 40 nuclear bombs every year of 2Kton (hiroshima) strength. major boost to pakistani nuclear arsenal. so far pakistan can produces 20 to 25 plutonium bombs every year starting 2010 using its existing 600MW chashma plants.

2) China Pakistan rail project roughly 3 billion dollar connecting havelian pakistan to china kashgar of 750kms long through karakoram highway.. that will be a major boost to china pakistan relationship and trade, giving china strategic route for oil passing through pakistan.

3) Gawadar to Sind new railway line 870km long to Rato Dero Sind is funded by pakistan. it will run in parallel to M8 highway which is currently under construction...

4) Mining details is something i am waiting to hear on ??

5) more infrastructure projects, not sure whatelse is there ?

Nadaan Dost

1 Gig and 630 MW plants are for producing electricity

I think many would be revealed during Chinese PM's visit .

Pakistan's civilian reactors are under IAEA safeguards, as will be any future reactors.

Plutonium for nuclear weapons is produced at the Khushab Nuclear complex, where Pakistan is in the process of completing two new HWR's.

The Chashma NPP's are Light Water Reactors and use enriched Uranium, unlike the Khushab Plants, and therefore cannot be used for Plutonium based weapons production in any case. The proposed 1GW NPP will likely also be a Light Water NPP like the Chashma plants.

Please do not make irresponsible statements like these.

Whats wrong with my statment, how is it irresponsible and "do i know what i am talking about"" ???? ??? Plutionium byproduct can be reused or can be extracted from this plant to make nuclear weapons???

i wasnt sure if pakistan was extracting P239 from its light water reactors as a spent fuel ( to make nuclear weapons) or resusing it within the nuclear plant. my statement was based on the fact that pakistan will extract plutonium from U238 that will be split during power generation...

Since they are under IAEA inspection, i am assuming that pakistan cannot extract P239 from the nuclear reactor to make nuclear bombs...

Senior members if i am young in age, dont assume that i dont know what i am talking about.. u be amazed to know what i know... all of you gents should get out of mob mentality and start bashing a person without understanding the depth of this statment...

The part of your statement in red is fine as whatever those reactors do they do under the safeguards of IAEA so there is no question of making atom bombs. They have their very effective checks and balances.

Just google it and you dont need to be amazed, one can find a good amount of knowledge about nuclear reactors and their by products,
