Guys,

I understand that Hindus are Pakistanis as well.
My sole point in bolding out the text and pointing out the commissioning of Pakistani Hindus was to show that although Christians and Parsi (Zorastrians) have regularly joined the Army, its a recent phenomena that Sikhs and Hindus have started joining the armed forces as well. It bodes well for Pakistan and the Pakistani armed forces.

Can't blame them...the wounds of partition take a long time to heal.

I can't imagine any hindus joining the army during the Zia period.

minorities joining armed forces ideally should not be making news in any nation...
hope to see more women being inducted too in the sub-continent ..

i think this is a great sign in pakistan. i have to admit that we make remarks in our daily life that are disparaging to minorities. this shows that this is coming to an end. I am sure that they will do their job with honor and integrity and they will make us all proud like any other army officer

Not sure why this case is being singled out for such critique. In India, you guys drive the max. mileage out of someone from the minorities like the Muslims being promoted etc.

In any case I made a news item out of it. It was not widely reported...only a small blurb but when something ground-breaking happens as was the case with the first negro attending USMA, it tends to get attention. Thus the small APP blurb about a couple of Pakistani Hindus joining Pakistan Army.

Pakistan Army is late to induct, Hindu/Sikh as officers.
In India, Muslim officers, soldiers have served along with Hindu/Sikhs in all the three services, since 1947. Many have won battle decorations, includind Param Veer Chakker, in 1965 war, the highest gallentary award in India. Many muslim soldiers, aviators and sailers in Indian Armed Forces have confronted our soldiers in all wars.

As the posting policy in Pakistan Army goes, these Hidu/Sikh officers will be posted to operational areas like along LOC, Siachen, working boundry to guard the boundries of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, threatened by Hindu dominated Indian Army. Interesting, but this is, what is expected from those gentlemen, for which they are actually trained.

I thought it was big deal to see Kashmiris or Dalits being promoted in the armed forces but in any case if you read my post again.. you will realise I was not singling out Pakistan alone...
