A case was reportedly filed against 111 people on Monday for defamatory remarks against Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien on Facebook over the Suryanelli gangrape case. According to reports, Bindu Krishna, a Mahila Congress leader in Kerala, had filed a complaint with the cyber cell


of the Kerala Police against the defamatory comments.
In other reports, 120 people have been questioned by the police in Thiruvananthapuram and nearby areas for posting allegedly obscene Facebook posts about Congress leader PJ Kurien and the Suryanelli rape case.

Two days ago, the rape victim had lodged a police complaint insisting that Kurien be made an accused in the case.

According to the complainant, Dharmarajan had told a television channel that he had accompanied Kurien to Kumily rest house in his car on February 19, 1996 where the girl was sexually exploited.

Now Khangress came this low, against the free speech.
Shame on them to regulate the net.

In his defense however, this is a case that has been closed for over 17 years. Kurien was cleared of all charges by all levels of court in India. His greatest defenders included Arun jaitley and other prominent BJP members. The current congress administration of Kerala is actually quite progressive...a very different approach to the preceding communist government which did nothing more than sit on their assess and meddle with the the treasury. This controversy started cropping up out of the blue when the government seemed to be consolidating their favorable position in public opinion. Despite the media's over enthusiasm there has been absolutely no new evidence to provoke a fresh inquiry. They are really just acting like shitstirrers for no apparent reason.

Anyhow, its mostly blown over.

Its a law and order move and not a political move. Electronic defamation falls under cyber crime and police has to react to an FIR. Recently an educational institute (IIPM) got one of govt of India's website blocked by *** since it contains a allegedly defamatory comment about that institute..
