A 10-year-old boy was found dead close to a mango orchard in Gosainganj on Sunday. The boy's parents alleged he was killed for plucking and eating mangoes from the orchard. Gosainganj police have registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence and is looking for three suspects on the basis of the parents' complaint.

A student of class IV, the minor boy, Satyam Dwivedi, stayed with his parents Ram Ujagar Dwivedi and Archana as well as sister Mandakini (13) and brother Shivam (7) at Satwara village located off Lucknow - Sultanpur highway near Khurdai Bazar. On Saturday evening, the boy's parents attended a wedding in the village, leaving the three children in the house.

According to Raj Ujagar, Satyam left the house around 10pm to visit a mango orchard along with Rinku Dwivedi, Dheeraj Dwivedi and Lavkesh Dwivedi after taking permission from Mandikini. The three, aged between 20 and 25, are now being treated as suspects.

When Satyam did not return home, Ram Ujagar, who came back home from the wedding post-midnight, launched a search in vain. Around 7am on Sunday, local residents informed Ram Ujagar that his son's corpse had been found in the fields. The boy's shirt had been used to suffocate him, said Officer in charge of Gosainganj police station sub-inspector Arvind Pandey. Circle officer of Mohanlalganj, DySP Alok Kumar Jaiswal said the police were probing whether old rivalries were at play between Ram Ujagar and the accused trio. Ram Ujagar is a farmer and owns agricultural land in Gosainganj.

"Mango orchard owners usually object if they find someone plucking mangoes in their farm without permission. Violent clashes do take place over mangoes, but we are yet to find a witness to ascertain sequence of events in this case," said Pandey.

The officer added that the boy's face and mouth was covered with mud and it was not clear whether he had eaten mangoes. "Apparently, he was dragged away from the mango orchard situated close by. We are waiting for postmortem report to check if the boy was subjected to unnatural sex," said Pandey.
