    Except for Finnish, it's closer to Estonian and Karelian than it is to either Danish, Norwegian or Swedish. Iceland, also a Scandinavian nation, shares its linguistic commonality with Faroese, but only in written form. Spoken the two languages are not mutually intelligible.

    Very much so:partay:. Sometimes it completely changes the meaning of a word or sentence... but frankly, all translators suck to some extent, they don't tend to get conjugation or tense right:angry:. They're too literal.

    Danish is similar to Norwegian and Swedish, but it's also the most unfamiliar of the three. While Swedish and Norwegian are separated only by their different words, Danish also has some different grammatical rules... It's still mutually intelligible for native Swedish and Norwegian speakers...

    I'm fluent in English, Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish and some Russian (my wife's teaching me). I can understand Danish, due to its proximity to Swedish and Norwegian, but I don't know the words... This is also true for Faeroese and its closeness to Icelandic.
