    Erm...I wouldn't know the answers to any of that as I haven't written the report. However, we can't go into second-party interpretations over what happened. All we have, and can afford to go by, is the author's account of what she experienced.

    It wasn't a metaphor, she says that happened to her quite literally: You can understand her apprehensions on contacting the the hotel staff who she claims attempted to rape her friend earlier, but what's so hard about dialing the cops? Like you mention, something just doesn't add up.

    My problem with Michaela's account is that she didn't think it wise to contact law enforcement agencies even once. Granted, the cops in India aren't prompt or professional but I'm certain that a compliant registered by a foreign citizen would've set some wheels in motion.
